I'm so thankful for my name. I was once that kid who hated the foreign-ness of my name. It was a burden. My name is not a burden however, it's a gift. When I first came across this quote from Warsan Shire a few years ago, I knew...I knew. "give your daughters difficult names. give your daughters names that command the full use of tongue. my name makes you want to tell me the truth. my name doesn’t allow me to trust anyone that cannot pronounce it right."
