Depending of the adaption, i think Captain Nemo/Dakkar was an early representation of a bisexual man:

He had a wife and child in his former life and took interest in Aronnax as Nemo.

Its also pretty obvious in the Italian cartoon, in which he had also feelings for Artemius Lucas, a former friend from study times. Still after loosing his wife in an incident at sea.
