Rainbow Generation: Caitlin

-Who are you?

I’m Caitlin, I’m 23 and I’m a student and animal rights activist.

-How do you identify?

I identify as pansexual.

-How do you think it is being LGBT in this time and place?

I think it’s interesting being part of the LGBTQ community in this time because I think there is like a perception that all forms of sexuality and gender are accepted in this day and age but I don’t think it’s true. Even within the community there is a lot of discrimination and I personally experience a lot of people not taking my sexuality seriously (particularly if I end up in a relationship with a man). Hmm… I want to say that I think everyone should be more open about their sexual identity, in the way of expressing it but also being open to truly discovering who you really are even if other people don’t fully understand it.

This probably looks very cool, but simply creating a rainbow isn’t that useful. This is why the Care Bears have never beaten Doctor Doom.

I've been watching the Daily Show (and Colbert) for the last few weeks, since now I'm a bum I have plenty of time to waste.  The guest segment last night featured Paul Taylor, who was plugging a book about the culture war between Baby Boomers and Millennials, and in the course of their discussion the question of what to call the "post-Millennials" was raised.

(Apparently it goes like this: Boomers -> Generation X -> Millennials -> ????)

So it's the people who were born after the year 2000 that they were talking about, and I'd like to suggest that they be called the Rainbow Generation.  Because: they are the first generation that will come into its own around the time that non-POCs will be in the minority in the US.  They're also the generation that will (hopefully) grow into adulthood with legal, universal marriage and a stand-down in the war on drugs.

There you have it, the Rainbow Generation.  Anyone?
