Everyone is noticing how several characters of Mgas new upcoming Mirror Mi line seem to be deeply based on characters from their now retiring brand Rainbow high. And I’ve seen a few people wondering what’s going on!

What’s between these two Brands is something not too common to the industry at large but actually common to rainbow high. Or should I say… poopsie surprise?

Yeah this is just the next stage in what’s been a long cycle of Brand reincarnation.

From slime poopin dancing unicorns

To a giant fashion doll spin-off still directly tied to the unicorns branding (no poop mentioned this time thankfully)

To a completely detached deeply intricate fashion doll line that would eventually dissolve back into the Slime gimmick

To a once again new and completely detached deeply intricate line that seems built to do a better job at avoiding that.

Brand Reincarnation is when what is legally a completely separate and individual brand with original characters is launched but it is still clearly visually an evolved form of a different brand the company was using previously.

Usually only after the previous brand has either drove itself to a developmental standstill or been formally discontinued.

In Rainbow highs case now both!

And what Mirror Mi has seemed to finally realised it needs to do? Is the cut the Slime poop textured visual cord. It has ditched even the stylistic details that Rainbow high retained from its poopsie days.

And I mean style not design. The designs couldn’t be less subtle that this is a reincarnation if they tried.

We know, they know. It’s an open secret. Literally same sentence different font situation.

But the big heads and massive eyes are gone. The entire style it’s presented in has shifted with the Brand change in a way it didn’t really from poopsie to rainbow high. And I think that’s absolutely for the better.

Rainbow high always felt like it was fighting against the style. Constantly tweaking things facially but never fully changing the fundamentals. Which always somewhat clashed with the intricate fashions and took away visually from them.

They also have an admittedly much stronger idea behind them. Being sentient mirrors of amplified emotions over just some girls going to fashion school. Can’t push it in a random fantasy direction if it’s already fantastical by concept.

It just seems intentionally set up to close Rainbow high’s biggest pitfalls right from the jump. Which excites me!

Mirror Mi is a brand that clearly has a lot of thought and planning behind it. More than most toy brands. There’s a plan here. Not sure if I’m going to do a full Brand collection but… I’ll at least definitely get the full first wave. They’re gorgeous!

itty bitty slime girls redesign

-didn't change much on Ruby, I don't have any strong opinions on her look tbh, kinda miss her silly hat but i thought it was a fun opportunity to give her a clear plastic headband

-Sunny :) She's perfect already tbh I just wanted to give her an ice cream sweater

-I love Jade but there's something i just do not like about the one. Like give her her baggy pants back :/

-Skyler, idk I just thought it'd be fun to try and make her hair kinda cloud like, and the front braids are meant to look like rain. I thought it was cute.

-Violet's at her best when they're trying to make her look like Rarity from mlp. And I'll stand by that.

-Idk how well this design would translate to a doll but idc tbh i just hate her doll form so much, I want to think she's pretty so bad, she literally has pink hair but shes just.... and her Makeup is.... ugh
