If I bred my female spider ball python, Charlotte, with a male regular ball python, would the offspring likely be 1/2 spider and 1/2 regular, would the spider genes be dominant and make a whole clutch of spiders, or would they all be regulars carrying the genes for the spider pattern? I'm arachnophobic but dang if the spider pattern isn't neat to look at.
Friend, I really really would like to discourage you from breeding your spider bp. Especially to a wild type. I know it is your choice and I have no authority over you, but just hear me out.Reasons to not breed spider genes:The wobble is in all spiders, and cannot be bred out. Many have tried, only to fail. It is detrimental to their health, and a low-wobble parent can still produce high wobble babies. Wobble can cause the snake to go off feed if bad enough, and I have even heard of spider ball pythons needing to be put down because they couldn’t or wouldn’t feed and starved themselves. The wobble is stressful, its like if you were walking around constantly being dizzy and falling over, and when you get stressed it gets worse. While all of the existing spiders do deserve to live as full of a life as they can, it is not a good idea to add to them. Reasons not to breed a wild type:Normals are a dime a dozen. They are pretty, but nearly no one is looking to purchase a normal. Its hard to even give them away at this point. You would have to keep and care for all of them if they are unable to be sold/given away. Normals come out of pairing morphs to other morphs, and often times are frozen and sold as feeders as babies for larger snake eating snakes. Each individual baby you would have to keep would need a separate enclosure, with a heat source, enrichment, etc. You would have to buy food for all of them as well. On to your original question: The babies would turn out with 1/2 being normal, and 1/2 being spider.
