Brave New World
I’m listening to Amanda Cook’s new worship album “Brave New World” while heavy rain pours outside my window and I have an immense feeling of invincibility - that in Christ, I can go deep into the waters and He will make them calm and parted beneath my feet. I feel powerful - that in Jesus’ name, I can overcome anything that is placed before me.
God wants to show us wonders. He wants to enact miracles right in front of us. He wants us to be amazed at who He is. He wants to reveal His beauty to us slowly so that we appreciate every aspect of it. The more we get to know Him, the more is revealed to us about His deep, unwavering, all-sufficient love. A love that can overwhelm all fears and wants. A love that sinks into our hearts and transforms them to become what they were intended for all along.
God wants to show us mystery. He is immensely complex and wants us to truly know Him. But if he gave it all away at the outset than our journey with Him wouldn’t mean nearly as much. We wouldn’t learn who we are in Christ - our tendencies and habits, our deep desires, our insecurities, or our desperate need for Him.
God wants us to discover new heights, new valleys, new boundaries, new heartbreaks, and new joys. In each of these situations, He can show Himself to us in different ways that will reach deeper into the places of our heart that are holding back from surrendering to Him.
But once we surrender? That’s when the real journey begins.
