well for 3.5 i recommend the minmax boards or the class guides on the giantitp forums which have hints on like magical items to go for for you class and which feats are actually good to get.

for example i was broswing both the minmax and the giantitp forms for warlocks yesterday

if you’re playing 5e just follow the players handbook and you’ll have a good time
