spinnin' one of dad's + one of mine, for the day padre was born (1959) + the day bowie slipped away (2016).. ⭐️ everything + nothing has changed with him gone. thank you, mr. jones. for the heart behind all the bowies + for the art that will never pass away. i'm still deeply resonating with these words strung together, almost two years ago.. (swipe again for @foofighters' taylor hawkins' heartfelt ziggy tribute, in chicago, a few weeks after he left us.. 🖤) >>> (01/13/16) music holds the power to make you miss people you’ve never met.. this morning, i sat by the window with my coffee, on this frozen chicago morning. as the sun shined through, i thought about bowie.. a 50 year career. my mind can't comprehend that kind of impact. his fearless pursuit of art remains unmatched + surely touches every artist/creative mind, aware or not. 50 years of rebellion against boring, against expectation.. a true original + a legend that will never die, as the music plays on.. // i knew my dad's record collection was bigger than what he'd dusted off + gifted me when i got my record player, for my 22nd birthday. i also knew that most of what was left was likely damaged with our basement flooding, over the years.. what i didn't know is that in a cabinet (under a few layers of dust), i would find nearly perfect original copies of "damn the torpedoes" + "sticky fingers" + "dark side of the moon." among about a hundred others, i found "let's dance" (yep, bowie) + so much more.. (this makes me want to hug + yell at my dad, for letting those babies go unplayed for 25+ years. i nearly wept for the few that were goners, but mostly for all the incredible finds.. to think, i almost went record shopping, today!
