a cigarette for two.

Aki was very reserved. It seemed like every move he made was formed with such a bulletproof plan that it wouldn’t sound absolutely absurd that he was trying to hunt the gun devil.
You thought he was cold and the fact his eyes were blue didn’t help.
Until a cigarette.
It was really late–really fucking late, and everyone inside the resturant was already inebriated and staying inside was just a passage to being thrown up on. So you stood up from the floor pillows and made your way to the door to enjoy a nice cigarette.
“Shit.” You muttered to yourself while looking at the empty box in your hand. You looked away from the pathetic sight to see if there were any nearby gas stations or corner stores, but there was none and the one in walking distance was under construction.
A sigh escaped into the cold air, making smoke that should’ve been nicotine but you didn’t want to go inside yet, so you opted for leaning against the brick wall to drown in thought. You weren’t sure how long you were zoned out for, just that the chime from the door snapped you out of it. It was Aki. He looked a little surprised you were out here, you can see the slight glassiness in his eyes from maybe a drink or two and the sway of his movements, but he didn’t say anything when leaning against the cold brick next to you.
Not much was said, the lighter flicked and smoke was slowly drawing out his mouth. You weren’t sure if it was due to the intoxication but he looked calmer? Softer? You assumed it was due to the alcohol in his system or the little in yours.
“Do you smoke?”
His voice sounded a little slurred but not too much to where you couldn’t perceive what he was saying but the mention of smoking illuminated your interest. He took a small glance towards you while the smoke was still circling in the air.
“Yeah”
Aki didn’t ask if you wanted one, he kind of just assumed you did and pulled one out of his new pack with an offer which you accepted without much hesitation.
A flick of the blue lighter and smoke was also dragging out your mouth and dancing in the air while nicotine stung your throat in such a gentle way. You don’t think you’ve had this brand.
You both rest into the comfort of nicotine, Aki’s shoulders relax and your breathing slows. Not many words were shared other than small comments and scoffs of acknowledgement, it was nice though.
When both cigarettes were finished and dropped you both still stayed in the chill. You weren’t sure why and neither was he but maybe the company of smoking with someone felt different, especially someone like Aki.
It wasn’t long though until devil hunters were stumbling out of the restaurant with giggles and incoherent sentences that didn’t sound remotely close to the language. Aki took Himeno by the arm to take the plastered woman home.
After that night you weren’t really sure if Aki really meant to give you a cigarette or if he even remembered in general. But the next time you all went for drinks at some empty restaurant and found yourselves wanting the company of nicotine and each other, Aki would make sure his pack had more than two.
