In 1990 a sound engineer who had worked with the RAK Mobile at the BBC in the 70’s contacted RAK’s studio manager Trish Wegg with a question - ‘Trish - Can you give my son a gig at RAK, he’s a nice boy’. The father asking was Vic and his son he was enquiring for was Nigel…last name Godrich.⠀ ⠀

Nigel Godrich started his career at RAK Studios shortly afterwards and in 1994 Radiohead came to RAK to record their second album ‘The Bends’ with producer John Leckie. This was a career changing session for Nigel who was at that point in house engineer at RAK.⠀ ⠀

The album was a huge critical and latterly commercial hit and took Radiohead to the next level. The following album, ‘OK Computer’ was produced by Nigel and released in 1997. It gave Radiohead their first UK No.1 and their highest chart entry in the USA at 21. It won numerous awards and critical acclaim and has been cited by listeners, critics and musicians alike as one of the greatest albums of all time.⠀ ⠀

Nigel Godrich left RAK Studios in 1995 to pursue other creative paths and in 1998 he approached Mickie Most asking if he could buy the original Mobile desk, the API 2488 which was at that point housed in RAK’s Studio 4.⠀

⠀ The subsequent purchase set the desk on its next journey. It moved to The Hospital in Covent Garden for a spell, he lent it to French artist Xavier Veilhan’s art exhibition at Biennale di Venezia (pictured) and it was used for the sessions at Tottenham House in Wiltshire, a country house scouted by Godrich for the recording of ‘In Rainbows’, Radiohead’s 7th studio album (pictured)⠀ ⠀

Today Nigel continues to use the API it as part of his ‘home studio’ set up.⠀ ⠀

While we were in #London for @londonbarriofiesta_ , top UK sold-out touring band @NewRules learned #tagalog & performed @InigoPascual @Billboard hit #DahilSaYo alongside their original #FixSomebody in the same legendary #RAKStudios near #AbbeyRoad that #Adele recorded her classic albums in. They recorded this right before they head on tour with superstar pop group, #LittleMix in October & have plans to come to the Philippines next year.
