it's raining out today, and i know you hate the rain.

the way each drop sounds like a meteor hitting earth. you tell me that it's pointless if the rain doesn't even aim to destroy when it has a sound that makes your ears hurt and eyes scrunch with irritation. half-assed damage control. i listen to you while i tie your hair into a ponytail, then a fish braid. you've always liked water. you were always full of contradictions.

you pull my fingers towards you and kiss the tips. you punch me in the face with my fist, and wipe the evidence with your own. "i'm sorry," you tell me meaninglessly. "but you'll forgive me, right? you always do."

i don't this time. i take my fingers and plunge them into every crevice you own, every hole that makes me feel empty. i forge my own evidence and i stain your pretty face red. "i'm not sorry," i whisper. "but you're so beautiful right now."

I think it's an important perspective to have. The world goes on whether we want it to or not. Much of what I liked has held up, and means different things now than it did when I first discovered it, but it wasn't some golden age that we lost and no we live in an age of iron and it will never be restored. I found my place where no one knows what an oar is, taste-wise, and settled there. Everyone once in a while someone will turn me on to something new, and I appreciate it, but I no longer seek out new music the way I once did.
