I love Magneto a lot and I love that there are so many fans of him here on Tumblr but I think a lot of you fail to realise that he isn't a ✨️real person✨️ and ultimately any interpretation of who he is or what he stands for is flawed if you don't account for the fact that he changes dramatically as a character depending on who is writing him.

The current Magneto is very different to the Claremont Magneto who is also very different to Silver Age or Morrison Magneto. And that is ok. It's a long running comic book and he's going to change as a character over time as our world changes and the reader's and writer's preference changes.

I don't love every single version of him or every action he has ever taken and I don't defend every interpretation of his character but I will still call him my favorite character because there is so much about him that I do love.

I honestly think this applies to most comic book characters.

One thing I have noticed about the Hetalia fandom is that I feel it used to be a lot more historical fiction focused? I got into the fandom around 2012 (yikes) and I mainly loved the fanfictions and fan art focusing on retelling history but with Hetalia characters. Hetalia still means a lot to me, it's my main fandom, but I think it has become less about history over time (understandable considering the rebrand from APH to HWS, and focusing less on history in the manga).

Idk it just had me thinking because personally my interest in Hetalia does stem from my general interest in history and historical fiction. Like apart from Hetalia, a lot of my favorite games are WW2 based (Hell Let Loose, Wolfenstein) and my favorite film is Inglorious Basterds.

It's somthing I've never thought about that some fans may not care so much about that aspect of the fandom/media.

I just found the playlists I made last time I was in my X-Men phase (~4 years ago) and omfg I was onto something with them. Especially the Nightcrawler one cos hear me out, most people put sad songs about religious guilt and trauma on his playlists but I see him as more of a dance/club song vibe because he's so fun in the comics he's not like in X2 😭

I might edit them a bit and post them somewhere at some point.

Hetalia has officially turned 18 years old! It is so bittersweet that I have been in this fandom for the vast majority of that time. I have spent over half of my life being obsessed with these silly country people! In all that time nothing media has fascinated me quite as much as Hetalia!

Here's to you, Hetalia, cheers! 💕✨️

I genuinely think if you showed someone with no knowledge of Hetalia some of the fan content they would think it was one of the most complex, beautiful and human animes ever. Like there are some beautiful historical fan fictions, doujinshi and fan art out there which really humanises the characters and gets into the reality of being immortal, how hard it is to love with all the responsibilities of being a nation and what it is like to try to identify with your nationality/country and the pride and pain that comes from that. And in reality Hetalia is just Germany screaming at Italy for cooking pasta and England calling America stupid and fat for 7 whole seasons.

When I go to a museum that allows photos I always take a few of things I find interesting. I thought I would share as I know a lot of my mutuals are fellow Hetalians and thus, are also fans of history. I think my love for history can be directly traced back to getting into Hetalia when I was younger haha.

These images were taken at Eden Camp, where German POWs were kept during and after WW2.

One of these images features a vintage 'Taking an L' joke which I genuinely did not know was a thing 80 years ago.

I started trying to learn German because of Hetalia (Germany/Prussia arw my favs 😭) but I kinda fell off. Now I am trying again but it's so hard to find resources outside of langauge apps.

Does anyone have any beginner reccomendations, like books or audio books or even Youtube resources? I want to turn this weird Hetalia fixation into somthing slightly useful at least.

Used a shopping service to buy a load of old Hetalia art books and the like second hand. The objectively horrible old promotional art for the anime is beautiful to me. I think it should be in an art gallery. So glad to have a physical collection of it now 😭
