Ranpo feels immense guilt over Akutagawa’s death, mostly because he made the wrong call to trust Fukuchi, knowing his bad call ended with Akutagawa’s death just eats him up inside.

So Ranpo visits Akutagawa with treats, medicine, and the like since he knows Akutagawa doesn’t take care of himself.

As a bonus, Akutagawa gets to feel smug since this is the first time someone of such high intelligence felt a crushing defeat. At least someone gets to understand the world of defeat and humiliation that Akutagawa experiences.

i have thoughts^tm about it. it's autism x autism and I really enjoy when fics explore a platonic dynamic between them. I think they could get along well.
