Ok random question time.

We’ve all heard of “comfort fics” that we read over and over again when we need a boost of joy and serotonin. But does anyone else have the opposite as well? The fic(s) that hurt so good and make you cry and break you in the best ways that you go back to when you really need to sit in the angst and pain for a bit before eventually getting to the happiness?

I’m currently rereading in the quiet, in the crowd and it just occurred to me that I may have specifically chosen this fic instead of a fluffy one because I feel the need to be sad right now. And I’m just wondering if I’m alone in this or if other people do this sometimes, too.

And if you do, what are some of your go-to “I need pain” fics?

Catoniss fic where the Everdeens are forced to move to district 2 instead of the usual Cato being forced to move to district 12. Listen snow would definitely want to punish Katniss more than Cato, and sending her and her family to a place where they are completely socially isolated and are surrounded by the effectiveness of capitol propaganda day and night would definitely be a more him punishment.

Several thoughts for fics that I thought I abandoned

The otherball put - it would be hilarious to me if CMC Sun ended up in he's a pirate

Cuz he's a civilian and the polar opposite of his pirate counterpart.

Also think it'd be funny just for shits and giggles to throw Gregory, Greg ( cmc's Gregory) and Cassie ( again cmc) into the what would have been of that spin of fix I wrote "Rival Company" where Gregory has no clue who Dogday is or why he's at the Plex ( yeah I planned for him to end up at the Plex under the guise of "Fetch" and taking over the bakery) and instinctively runs leading the poor dog man to have to chase after him cuz he's ALSO confused. ( In that reality Dogday becomes more like an uncle to Gregory so the confusion is kinda identical to cmc Moon's concern at the very beginning of the fic. )

The puzzle pieces are forming I just have to find a day where I want to make them fit cuz I got Ruined Lullaby and Christmas at the Circus ( still a working title.)

Random thought but I love it when in more lighthearted, almost crack-ish Tomarry/Tomione fics, Abraxas ends up being the lovable idiot character. The type where Tom would just look at him and contemplate sending him a crucio but would instead just shake his head in resignation, knowing he's a lost cause regardless. He'd still allow him to be his friend (or bff if Abby has anything to say about it) but atp its better to leave him be unless he does something headache inducing enough to warrant a response. He won't say no to the other Knights whacking him upside the end for being ridiculous though.

Ofc, Abraxas would probably still end up making an off-hand prejudiced comment bc all the stuff/info he was raised with won't disappear in a day even with a time travelling gryffindor intervention, but Harry or Hermione will be there to set him straight by probably cutting off his hair or smtg - appearance altering related hexes that'd make Abby scream and grovel. Hard to be too mad at him when he looks so genuinely distraught lol, but he definitely would've learned his lesson.

It's hilarious considering how the Malfoy family actually are in canon. Alternatively, I don't mind Lucius taking the position of blonde lovable idiot if it was a timetravel to the marauders era with focus more on the slytherins (if it was an _ x sev or _ x regulus fic). Wouldn't say it's a common or popular characterization of them but I still love it when it pops up. I can also adapt and hate their guts if their characters are closer to canon in more serious fics, but that's besides the point.
