You're old enough to know now, my girl, that things don't just happen to us. Somewhere in us we agree to them. We let things happen, though, even those closest to us might think we're still fighting.
Helen Dunmore, The Tide Knot
Wise words from a children's book. I was 12 when I first read this, now reading it for the second time, I’m 20. Back then, it was just a passing sentence that made the book undroppable. But now, I look at this, again and again and again; somewhere in me... I agree, I’m not taking the extra step because, I’m not good enough, I barely know what to do with This and... they’re right, this road might lead to nothing. I might regret this.
BUT. If I went along with everybody else, if I took the path that made more sense and neglected this one. Won’t I regret it more? Constantly wondering what it would be like on the other side of the field. I need to, I want to, to do or at least try to do what everybody else thinks its impossible, to at least feel the grass on the other side with my own bare hands. But... Does that mean, taking the extra step now? Will I ever be ready for This?
