Earlier today, Chairman of the Democratic Party Randy Voller had this to say about education:
“It’s sad to see a state leader assail our public education system as ‘broken’; a decade ago such a person would have been laughed out of the halls of the General Assembly.
We need to praise bipartisanship, such as the NC Drone Bill with two Republican and two Democratic sponsors. The Party needs to consider a long term strategy of where we want to go; we've sat patiently and watched the Republicans doing the same thing with Art Pope, to the 2010 and 2012 elections, to the Voter ID now. We see them reaching out to minorities.
I believe we need to go in a direction of bipartisanship (because they haven't hit that point yet) and structural change within the Party. The Democratic Party of North Carolina is constantly bashing the other side, but they need to consider posting solutions. For example, in his statement on education Chair Voller immediately took the defensive, which immediately defines a loser in a situation. How about we say yes, we need these cuts? They are only $25 million, out of nearly $30,000,000 that we spend already. But offer other solutions to education, such as making the members of the NCDPI go back to the classroom after so many years, or directing more funds from the broken education lottery to Head Start?
I'm a passionate Democrat, but we've got to start thinking everyone, and we've got to start playing on a level play ground.
