The reactions on this photo saddens me. While endlessly scrolling on facebook, I stumbled upon this photo of the ranking of the modern OPM artists. When I viewed the comments, which was full of lambasting and slanders, this phrase caught my attention : "I DONT WANT TO LIVE IN THIS COUNTRY ANYMORE". These 'artists' might not have met our standards, but to go so far as to say such is unthinkable! In relation to the bigger picture, the Philippines indeed has its flaws, may it be in the Government, or in the people in general. However, it is not enough of a reason to turn one's back to the country, to give up and to lose hope. I have learned from Rizal that progress can be stunted by either internal or external factors, but is inevitable. The time will come that the Philippines will ascend and break free from the ills that it faces today. As for these 'artists' who are deemed eyecandy and good for nothing revivalists, it is the masses who chose them. Maybe the OPM songs years ago were that meaningful due to the injustices and other experiences the Filipinos had faced by that time. Take me as an overreacting individual who is butthurt on what he sees on the internet, but it shows that there is a problem in us. I see a possible solution, though. Why not open the eyes and minds of the masses? How, you ask? Education. P.S. I, too, expect more of OPM.
