MAKI
· Maki was able to calm down a lot of the younger children when they had meltdowns before she left the orphanage…but those were kids, and she doesn’t really have any experience with someone her age. She’s afraid of infantilizing you.
· She handles it slowly and carefully. She asks if you’re okay with being touched, and when you nod, she holds you gently and pets your hair.
· “Everything’s all right, S/O,” she says quietly. You can tell she’s a little uncomfortable, but she’s trying so hard to be there for you. “I’m right here. I won’t let anything happen to you.”
· After you’ve calmed down a bit, she leads you back to your room and asks whether you’d like company or whether you’d like to be alone. She respects the latter if that’s what you want, but if you want her to stay she’ll lie down with you and silently spoon you to help you feel safe and secure.
· You’re so tired you fall asleep, and when you wake up you find she’s left you with a plate of your favorite comfort foods and a note telling you she loves you. It seems small, but you know she’s not very comfortable articulating her feelings, so it means a lot.
CELESTIA
· Celeste has no idea what’s happening at first; she’s afraid something’s wrong with you physically, and she’s about to go find someone to help you when it clicks that you’d mentioned before that you get panic attacks, and that must be what this is.
· She does a lot of shushing and petting, gently wiping the tears off your cheeks as she tries to figure out how to help.
· “Can you breathe with me, darling?” she says. You nod, and she helps you count out your breaths until you’ve stopped hyperventilating.
· She wipes your tears again and kisses your forehead and tucks your hair behind your ears. She doesn’t admit to you how scared she was for a minute; she just tries to make sure you’re as comfortable as possible.
· She asks if there’s anything you need her to get or to do for you, and she’ll immediately do whatever you ask, which is a first for her, but you’re worth it.
· She also coddles you for a while, making sure your pillows are fluffed and drawing you the most perfect bubble bath you’ve ever seen. It doesn’t matter how much you tell her she doesn’t really have to do that; she just wants the best for you.
