He was successful, attractive and charming, but he'd learned that people always had secrets; it was how he came to form his elite gang with few members. The Black Butterfly Gang wouldn’t be notorious without him. Kim Namjoon was a man of his words and wouldn’t stand for anyone under his allegiance to be crossed. A simply designed butterfly etched between the cracks of your door meant you were in deep shit.
And it went for his daughter too.
“Nambi, where have you been?”
Nambi moped into the room--she had hoped it would be Jin and not Namjoon waiting for her. “ I was out and about. You know, doing girly things.”
Namjoon cut his eyes towards the teenaged girl.
“I was visiting a friend,” She cringed at her lie, and then cringed more since it was her tell.
“Your mother’s grave,” Namjoon sighs and points towards the chair across from him, “Nambi you know I don’t mind you visiting your mother’s grave but once again you went out without protection. We were having a deal today, and you know what could have happened.”
Nambi crossed the dainty furnished room and sat in the chair, “Appa, I can explain-.”
“Nambi, you know it’s dangerous for you to go out alone, especially when there’s a deal running. One of those fools would consider making a hit on you while our guard is somewhere else. We’ve talked about this, why won’t you listen?”
“For the same reason, I’ve always said. I don’t want a guy following me around all the time.”
“Don’t be stupid Nambi. He’s only protecting you as much as he can, but you keep evading him. “
She huffed, knowing her father was right. She just didn’t want him following her around. A tiny knock resounded in the modest living room.
“I knew I heard the tell-tale signs of a father and his daughter arguing.”
Kim Seokjin. A natural doctor is known for his charmingly elegant looks and his proficiency to heal anyone. He was also known for his stunningly deadly looks and his expertise in sharp poison. In Namjoon’s gang, Jin was go-to for slow killing or on-the-spot fatalities and the one for emergency wounds and bruises. Namjoon wouldn’t permit him out on the field nor was he allowed to go into deals.
“Jinnie, she went out without protection again,” the exasperated father stood up and crossed the room to smother his husband with hugs and kisses.
Jin had lifted an eyebrow at Nambi before Namjoon shielded her from his eyesight.
While they were busy, Nambi took it as a chance to sneak away to her room. Her room was on the third floor, which meant three flights of stairs.
Namjoon and Jin, mostly Namjoon, had chosen the farthest and most luxurious room for her for a reason.
“It’ll take 52 seconds for them to go up each flight and another 30 to get to your room, giving us enough time to get you out of this house during an ambush.”
It was a mere shadow of her father’s overprotectiveness. Nonetheless, Jin was the opposing side of the parents. If it hadn’t been for Jin, Namjoon would’ve had her homeschooled, friendless, and wouldn’t have advised her where her mother was buried. Thankfully, Jin knew how to control Namjoon and proposed that Nambi is given the spacious and broad room and that she goes to private school where they could monitor her if needed.
Of course, the whipped Namjoon readily agreed if it meant Jin would be happy.
Nambi had appreciated the idea of having a whole floor to herself, but that was before she learned what being lonely meant. She couldn’t invite friends over since everyone’s parents were anxious about her fathers. They had gotten cards at one point.
The kids had made fun of Nambi because she was the only blasian child in the class (there were other blasians in the school, just not in the class.). She had gone home crying, running into Jin’s arms while Namjoon questioned her. The next day, the parents all came whining up to the door asking for forgiveness. They each had a Black Butterfly card in their hands.
She had lost any chances of having friends then.
Now her room was just filled with memories of tears, studying, and nightmares. Even so, Namjoon spoiled her young and allowed her to decorate the deserted room however she wanted, which meant teddy bears and unicorns to replace the emptiness. She had painted the room a pastel coral, teal, and grey-a perfect combination Jin had agreed too. The bed was moved to the corner of the room with a nightstand right next to it. There were stars covering the ceiling that shined a neon purple in the room when it was gloomy. Her teddies and unicorns littered her bed and the floor. Her study desk and dresser were next to each other in the far left of the room; they were hidden from entering sight so Nambi could have time to hide behind them as Namjoon said. The floor was carpet so it muffled any sound. Her favorite spot was the window seat where she could read a book and sit for hours and use the moonlight as her light. Her room may have been lonely, but it was a quiet fortitude that granted her thoughts a place to run free.
Jin had wanted to let her move downstairs where she could be comforted by the maids, but Nambi knew it would upset Namjoon and she had gotten too attached to the room. It was the brief space she had to herself. Everywhere else she went was spent with him, and no matter how much she tried to evade him, there he was.
