If you live in one of these states, you have a senator on the judiciary committee who is holding up a bill that would renew funding for testing the backlog of r4pe kits (Debbie Smith Act; S499) | As a constituent, you have power to hold r4p1sts accountable (see how in comments)
Tens of thousands of r4pe kits are in backlog, each one representing a victim's worst nightmare. Delays in testing these kits can lead to tragedy.
If you live in California, Rhode Island, Hawaii, New Jersey, Georgia, Vermont, Texas, Utah, Missouri, or Arkansas, you have a senator on the judiciary committee who hasn't yet co-sponsored the bill. Write to your senator and ask them to co-sponsor S499. The ROI for testing these kits is high.
As Committee Chair, Dick Durbin (D-IL) has already co-sponsored the bill, but he needs to move it through committee. If you live/vote in IL, you can contact Dick Durbin here to thank him for his co-sponsorship and ask him to champion the bill.
Contact from constituents works.
Writing your senator could genuinely help clear the backlog, and most rapists strike again if they get away with it.
