Quintus Arce was a Black hero, a mage of vast might, the brooding Bloodwynd; he wielded the Blood Gem, a cursed artifact forged by his slave ancestors as a weapon of vengeance against their oppressors; from this, he gained powers like flight, sensing magic & necromancy; the Martian Manhunter was once briefly coerced to imitate him for a villain's plot; and after dying, he had to be saved by his hero successor, nephew Raphael, from the Gem's curse (Underworld torment); but, at his best, he was a mighty ally to the Justice League & Sentinels of Magic!

Raphael Arce: Showed up to the Justice League. Turned out to be the Martian Manhunter. Showed up for real. Refused to elaborate. Left. Showed up twenty years and two reboots later as a civilian who'd never been a superhero, tried to absorb all the suffering from the people of Metropolis, got crushed into a crystal of meat and solid rage, and became the Superman of Hell.

The four appearances he's had in current continuity are SO GOOD, I love that he's willing to put himself on the line for the damned because he doesn't think eternal torment can ever be deserved, and I hope he at least becomes a recurring character in Action Comics because he has so much potential as a completely sincere take on a powerfully edgy concept.

Laura Broadbahr: The Craptacular B-Sides was a three issue limited series published in 2002 by Marvel Comics. Fateball (as well as her two teammates, Jughandle and Mize) appeared in these three issues and nothing else ever. She's a skilled fighter and can predict the future using her magic 8 ball.
