Love #RaphaelBarontini @Raphael_Barontini @thepillofficial @154artfair solo presentation of a new body of work on the occasion of his upcoming solo show @SCADMoA The exhibition entitled #OrfeuNegro hereinafter #MarcelCamus’ cult movie awarded w the Golden Palm at 1959’s Cannes Film Festival is a critical reading on cultural appropriation, socio-racial differentiation & a formal re-appropriation of the codes of Carnaval. Barontini, known for his work on creolization & his spectacular #AfroFuturistic compositions often combined w sound & site-specific installations, will be showing an unseen body of sculptural paintings occupying the center of his exhibition. The artist is deeply interested in Edouard Glissant’s vision of creolisation. He refers to this phenomenon as a “poetics of relation.” He also replaces the notion of globalisation (mondialisation) – based, far too exclusively on economic precepts – w the notion of globality (mondialité), in which he sees possibilities for a positive collective narrative & cultural civility. His Solar Cloaks are imaginary cloaks re-investing the royal costume as a tool of empowerment. With its direct allusion to Sun Ra’s stage costumes, it is also a hint to the strong legacy & influence of Camus’ movie on generations of musicians & artists, from #JeanMichelBasquiat to #WayneShorter, making of #BlackOrpheus a milestone in the history of music. #154artfair #FriezeWeek #representation #contemporaryafricanart #africancontemporaryart #artcollector #artcurator #artadvisory #joakimvonditmar (at Industria) https://www.instagram.com/p/BxC2t6AlaNr/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=wozujbvk7mgv
