elaborating a little from this answer: this au is sort of developing into a reversal of norribeth's usual dynamic. in potc proper james is presented as the safe and boring choice...but i think an elizabeth that has lived under the napoleonic wars her whole life, watching the news come in, in an era when the navy is much more prestigious and respected, is gonna be a little more intrigued in a navy man who has been fighting since he was 8 years old.

and i think especially being in england and not a remote colonial outpost does a lot to fuel that frustration. the closer they get to london the harder it is to ignore the swanns' social standing.

Kingdom Hearts OC, right? Organization XIII. Nobodies everywhere. I forget what number he was...I think he ended up with 101 which was funny. His name is rearranged from Ephraim. and he was SCOTTISH. Like, unintelligibly scottish. I learned so much Scots. I was learning Gaidhlig for a hot second. I wrote all of his dialogue in vernacular. (I convinced myself I was into Outlander because of this. I am no longer into Outlander, PHEW)

His element was Fungus and he came from the Treasure Planet universe (inspo was those giant mushrooms on Treasure Planet. it also gave me leave to just...build an entire planet for his backstory, because who's going to say how big the Etherium is???). He was the same species as Doctor Doppler but forced into human-shape when he lost his heart (since everyone in O13 was human). So he had a lot of dog mannerisms like a good sense of smell and loyalty/separation anxiety LOL

Treasure Planet also gave me an opportunity to latch onto my BOATS obsession, particularly the Royal Navy (he was soooo close to being a Pirates of the Caribbean girlie, but TP was underrepresented in the club and I needed to be Unique™️) so he was in the space version of the Navy. (also the way their ships were still stylistically sailors, still looked and felt like ships of the line/tallships/etc my BELOVED) Captain Ephraim Spall, at your service.

I don't have a source for this but at the time I had heard that in the Doppler/Amelia cat/dog-people species, the males were the ones that got pregnant. So of course, cue sad backstory about him having kids/etc and then being forced into a completely different gender role when he became human. Lots of exploration of that and gender identity, he ended up being kind of genderfluid and explored it as a drag queen in his free time.

It also gave me leave to explore sensory issues through him, like imagine your whole nervous system just got rewritten and you didn't get a guide, and the person in the mirror is a stranger and deeply not you, the DYSPHORIA

he was so touch-starved and touch averse until he got some decent friends to cuddle with

And despite really diving into his sexuality, he was still totally loyal to his wife and never took a partner or lover or mistress or whatever you want to call it. Even though he was technically dead, technically free. His one objective was to return to her. (This was before I knew I was ace and just...didn't want a sticky character but did want platonic intimacy lol)

Anyway he ended up being too good of a guy, so he defected from the Organization to join a group of revolutionaries trying to stop them/protect the natural balance of light and dark. A bunch of emotional trauma and PTSD/anxiety, an accident that made him partially deaf, and a deep dive into sign language later... He did get his heart back! But because it was an art-based group and I loathe drawing with a passion, I never did get the full scene up before the group dissolved.

A tortured soul who just wants to have his friends close by and go home to his wife and kids, my BRAND. We love sad dads with no kids in this house.
