canon’s fun but think of all the stuff you can break when you add in another fandom or just veer off a different path. …and you are intriguing me with your what if thoughts.
This makes me laugh. It's like we go into new fandoms rubbing our hands together as we look around at the pristine decor whispering, "How much of this can I break with as little effort as possible?" Most people do things like switch up the pictures or rearrange the furniture and we start lighting stuff on fire or sawing off one leg of a chair to see if anyone will notice. XD

crossovers are the best, okay. but omg. I will be a horrible influence in this regards because AUs and crossovers are pretty much all I play in now.
No worries, I'm actually pretty terrible at sticking to anything 'canon' especially since all of my favorite pairings are never going to be canon anyway. The closest I ever got to a canon pairing was Harry/Luna (Harry Potter) and that's because I could actually see that happening.
Though, I guess Michael/Angel counts as a canon pairing... XD
But, I've always been really fond of the wildly AU and the 'What if' stories. Like... What if Tony Stark hadn't gown up a billionaire? or What if Bert had shot Scratch and Latch that first time they'd ever seen each other? Just the domino effects on character development and events is fascinating!
