On this day in 1848, young Katherine Fox called out to the noisome spirits thought to be plaguing her family's Hydesville, NY cottage. Many believe the spirits answered her, thus planting the first seeds of what would grow into the religion of Modern Spiritualism. I discovered this precipitated spirit painting of the Fox Sisters--Maggie, Kate, and Leah--stored away in the attic of the NSAC headquarters in the Spiritualist center of Lily Dale, and it has become an annual tradition to post it on this day.
