The rapper better known as Redman, Funk Doctor Spock, or simply Reggie Noble, is often slept on more than any other rapper I can think of. Why, because he's a smoker? Because his music is full of comedic lines? Was he a decade too early? I really don't know what it is, but the boy Reggie deserves way more credit than he gets! In my mind, he laid the groundwork for Ludacris's fame. Perhaps a good portion of Eminem's path as well. I don't quite know when I became aware of Redman's music, somewhere around the time he and Method man became a duo and certainly by the time that duo stood as my favorite characters to use on Def Jam Vendetta(Red was #2.) The good thing about catching on to Redman late was being able to download and create a megamix of his first 5 albums and vibe out. I listened to all Redman for a solid month! I felt like Neo in The Matrix. Like my brain was downloading the master file of an ancient rap fighting style. Doc has mastered the combination of smoke anthems, pure grit and hysterical comedy. He's one of the few rappers that constantly has me smiling or laughing out loud as his music plays. Don't sleep on him, he just might be better than your favorite rapper!
