What does a camel say?! Well, actually it's rather terrifying... 'Camelus. The White Tartarian, or Domedary.', was engraved on copper by J. Chapman, for "Encyclopaedia Londinensis; or, Universal Dictionary of Arts, Sciences, and Literature, Comprehending, Under One General Alphabetical Arrangement, all the Words and Substance of Every Kind of Dictionary Extant in the English Language" by John Wilkes. It was published by J. Adlard out of London on March 16th, 1799. This print measures 11 1/8 x 8 1/4 inches. This handsome fellow makes us miss our days of living in Dubai and seeing these beautiful creatures on a regular basis. 🐂 ‘Boeufs Sauvages’ - Wild Oxen, from 1706, was taken from “Illustrations de Voyages du Baron De la Hontan dans l'Amérique septentrionale, qui contient une relation des différents peuples qui y habitent, la nature de leur gouvernement, leur commerce, leurs coutumes, leur religion et leur manière de faire la guerre...” by Baron de La Hontan and Nicholas Gueudeville, which related de la Hontan’s voyages around North America. It was published by C. Delo out of La Haye in France in 1706. This little print only measures 5 1/4 x 6 1/8 inches. Yet, it shows so much! From the wild oxen, to the taking of the 🐂 by the horns, to the attack of the ox with a spear, to the native jumping on the ox, to the natives cooking the oxen, to a baby ox being eating by a crocodile in the river. Marie.’ was pulled from “Report on the Geology and Topography of a Portion of the Lake Superior Land District in the State of Michigan, Part II, The Iron Region, Together with the General Geology.” by John Wells Foster (1815-73) and Josiah Dwight Whitney (1819-96). It was printed by James Ackerman of 379 Broadway, New York, and published for the House of Representatives in 1851. This two-toned lithograph measures 5 1/2 x 8 5/8 inches.
