She had left. Unexpectedly, completely out of the blue. With only a goodbye slipping past her lips and not much of an explanation, even though he had a pretty good idea of what had prompted the rushed departure. Only an apology, the ( logical ) conclusion that long distance wouldn’t be the best even when he’d be more than willing to try. There was no convincing Fenix when she set her mind out to something. He missed her terribly, her being the only thing in his mind for the last couple of months. Almost a year since she left.
He had never been one to celebrate holidays. Not after losing all and everyone, immortality being a curse during these times more than others. Not that his relationship his father had been shiny and bright, but he couldn’t help but miss the company on someone on the vast space of his house. She had made it easy, so easy.
After a couple of hours locked away on his garage playing his guitar, he walked back into the house to grab his jacket and get ready. He had never been one for parties but some of the guys from the soccer team had insisted on him joining them and maybe that was just what he needed. To get his mind away from things, from her. He reached the house quickly, the place not that far from his own, a good twenty minutes on feet. He immediately greeted most of the people already there, all of them friends from school and soon a red solo cup had been pushed into his hands.
He laughed and joked, drank and danced. Trying his best to enjoy himself and not think about her, her smile and the last time they were at a party like this one together. He didn’t notice her walk in, her twin brother at her side until one of the guys from his team walked up to him and pointed it out “ hey ed! look who’s here!.” he laughed at his friend’s slurred voice, alcohol already doing wonders on his body but the moment he turned to follow his gaze, all laughter died down.
Suddenly he couldn’t hear his friend’s voice anymore, nor the music blasting through the speakers and bouncing off the walls. He couldn’t hear the rest of the persons there screaming and cheering and laughing. He couldn’t hear anything but the sound of her heart beating, his senses already intoxicated by her. He didn’t know if he should reach out, talk to her, greet her. Completely overwhelmed by everything around him. When had she came back? Why didn’t he call him? Didn’t she want to see him?
