Teddy sat out by the lake. On the surface of the water something rippled. It was a snake, a cobra of all species. Patterned and white like many of the animals that came to them lately. her bright blue eyes trained on the creature as it slithered across the surface of the glass like water. One foot dipped into the water and the snake wrapped itself around her ankle before burying it’s teeth into the tender skin of the oracle’s calf. 

She did not yell or scream. Whatever special poison it had was lethal. she could feel the stiffness of the muscle begin to set in. The blood in her veins coagulated slowly to darken under her pale skin. Her leg looked diseased and she tilted her leg to observe the way it travelled up to her thigh. The snake buried it’s teeth further into her skin. Teddy reached down to touch the snake and it began to lose its form. 

Her sisters came to her side slowly to watch the way her body absorbed the snake. Her once blue eyes were an acid green, a noxious color that made them a little sick to see. Maxie wheeled her way closer and leaned in with curiosity. Takao stroked the skin of the now immaculate calf. Anubis knew their gifts and he was giving them the tools to fight when ares came. The acid color disappeared behind strawberry lashes and teddy breathed in deeply as her mouth opened to spit out the animals skin.

 “Sexy,” clover commented sarcastically. Rashida leaned forward blindly to pick at the dried and hollowed white skin. “Let’s get this to the altar,” baby murmured with a grimace, “that is just so gross I can’t believe you’re touching it.”

The girls were all painting on their faces for the evening. “Do you think they dated?” The innocent question came from the quietest of the brood, rashida. Clover was doing her makeup for her as it was hard to do anything with the way her sight worked. One eye saw five seconds into the future and the other lagged five seconds behind the present. It was a cumbersome ability.

 Three pairs of eyes directed towards her and the first scoff came from takao. The ghost was dressed in a tight plaid mini dress with a fishnet undershirt and heavy boots for the evening and her poisonous glossy red lips parted to voice her protest, “I doubt with a memory as scarring as apollo.” Teddy sat in between the others legs as takao braided her hair. Her bright blue eyes were half lidded and hidden by thick coats of black mascara. She played with the edge of her red dress as she frowned a little, “I don’t think it means you give up on love.” Clover whole heartedly agreed as she fidgeted in her tube top and mini skirt as she lined rashida’s lips with a nude pencil, “you find love even after.” Maxie packed on her black glitters she inerjected her two cents, “my mom couldn’t move on from her first.” The room fell silent for a moment and they all debated the possibilities. “I would like them to fall in love,” rashida said quietly again as baby doll put down her sticky hot pink tube of lip gloss. The sound resounded and they all turned to look at the multi colored beauty. “Mom will fall in love when she feels she’s able to. She’s not like us. She’s old. Guarded. I bet anubis is the same way.” Hardly did anything that serious ever leave babydoll’s mouth. The grimness of the moment settled heavily. She gave a smile, “it’s gonna be a party. Why worry about things that don’t concern us?” A mumur rippled through the group and they agreed. Tonight was about fun and champagne.

Julien sat at ryan’s feet with another cadet. She was one of the few girls, but julien found it nice that the little of them seemed to stick together. The blonde picked apart her snack out of bad habit as they bounced ideas off each other about theoretical techniques. She felt the nudge of ryan’s shoe at her back, saying, I’ll be right back and Julien nodded as she kept talking with rashida. “Okay, I have to ask,” rashida stated with a lowered voice, “why is the lieutenant your body guard or whatever?” The blonde tucked some fly away hairs as she thought carefully on the best way to go about it. “I’m not sure if I’m allowed to talk about it,” She answered as she nibbled a little piece of food. “Oh, okay, but like what are you guys?” Julien furrowed her brows at the question, “I’m not sure I understand.” Rashida seemed to tread more carefully, keeping watching for ryan, “I mean you guys are always like attached to the hip. Like I mean, she’s got her boot in your back practically,” the cadet stated. Julien still didn’t quit comprehend, “legalities of the agreement I am under. Minimum ten feet with little exception.” Rashida gave a less impressed, “oh, well I thought ya’ll were a thing–” the blonde nearly spit out her precious water and swallowed it down with a very intense shake of her head with a nervous laugh. “Oh no, no. She is not – no. I don’t even think she likes me sometimes because she’s so stoic.” Yes, they were fond of each others presence because it was forced. At least so she thought. “She is doing her job.” Rashida gave an unconvinced sound. “But you like her?” The bright red flooded her cheeks and she hushed the other. “No, no, she’s just really – she makes me feel safe. That’s all.” She showed one of her arms to rashida and the other went quiet as she got to see the scars up close. “You’ve seen some crap, huh?” Rashida asked with a sigh as she touched the scars around julien’s wrists. “It’s only logical I’d seem attached to someone who makes me feel safe. It’s nothing. It’s just a crush. It’ll go away like everything does.” The cadet frowned before throwing her arms around the blonde, “I’m sorry jules. I didn’t mean to pry.” The blonde lent herself into the hug, allowing herself to cry a little with the cadet. The two seperated a little as rashida wiped away her tears. “You’re pretty tough blondie.” Julien couldn’t help a little laugh and she gave the other a punch on the shoulder, “as you Americans say, whatever.” The two laughed but quickly quieted when ryan came back to her post behind julien. She couldn’t help but subconsciously pull away. She didn’t want anyone to think what rashida was thinking. Despite the praise for her strength, julien knew she was emotionally weak and this was a costly weakness. She lowered her head as she forced herself to finish her ration.
