i went into nature and found a thing for the rats

when they walk on it theyll grit their nails, and hopefully make their nails a lil less sharp

there's a ladder to get down as well as a rope perch but they often use this way to get down and it helps lessen the scratches! rats also like to use lava ledges as chew toys which is safe but sometimes ppl dont like to watch their money slowly or quickly deteriorate. to combat that problem simply file a complaint with your alpha rat and he should hold a group meeting letting the others know

jk just get more and hope they spread the lava ledge abuse

Nail trimming- clipping or filing?

I trimmed Ruperts nails with the clippers and almost all of Theo's nails. But the girls are IMPOSSIBLE. I just can't get a steady hold on them without another person to hold them & Wyatt isn't home. I think I'm going to file them from now on. I might still need help but the girls nails are so teensy don't think trimming would last longer & it's just hard to make sure I don't clip too much. I have to start doing it regularly though. My collarbone-area always gets so torn up, it's ridiculous. (Ready for winter!!) We tried to put extra-fine waterproof sandpaper in their cage but I don't think it helped, the girls just avoided stepping on it or climbing on it :/ I dunno if I wanna file all the rats or just the girls then use clippers on the boys. The boys give up a lot easier and are easier to get a hold of.
