The Ratings System
Each track reviewed is given a rating out of 10, with the album’s final score being the average of the scores of each individual track.
The ratings are as follows:
10
A masterpiece. The outside world stops moving as the track plays.
9
Almost a masterpiece. Just isn’t a 10, but is mighty close.
8
A quality song. There are many elements to like here.
7
A very good song.
6
A good song.
5
Average. Usually a track that had potential, or has one element I kinda liked.
4
Okay. Nothing noteworthy about the song. Music fills up the time, with little to be glad about.
3
Poor. They’ve made a poor choice somewhere in there, and it ruins the song.
2
Awful. There is very little to like here.
1
Dreadful. Nothing to like about this track at all.
Frequently Asked Questions about the Ratings System.
These numbers are a bit arbitrary aren’t they? Sure! But we need someway to turn a very subjective feeling into an objective number. This system is just a way we came up with to help. It is by no means perfect, but we’ve found it especially helpful so far.
Why out of 10? Everyone else does it out of five... While scoring out of five may seem simpler, we think that out of 10 helps to better differentiate between albums. A score out of 5 can lump some pretty big albums next to each other. Are they truly equal? Or are some slightly better than others? Our system will help tell us that.
