i saw it again on my dash recently but i didn’t save it :’| 

anyone have a link to that screencap of the time Undel streamed making cape apparel and there were silhouettes of what later turned out to be coatls, nocturnes, and some squat thing that isn’t released yet?

Hey there! Iv been following you for a little bit, and am aware that you are into taxidermy? I have recently become obsessed with it myself, and will start on a project (a duckling) soon. But my question; are certain animals specifically better to use for soft mounts? Like, if only seen wolves, coyotes, and foxes. And one badger. Idk. Soft mounts are my favorite thing, so I'd like to learn a bit more about them. But yeah haha thanks for reading this at least~

Hello there!  I noticed you were a new follower of mine so glad to hear from you and your interest in taxidermy!  Indeed I do taxidermy, will be going onto my 5th year of doing it as of next month.

First off, always good to hear about first projects!  Duckling will be a challenge I will warn you because of their size but don’t be afraid and try your best.  Make sure to read up on how to mount birds and have plenty of references at the ready also!  I know I’m actually going to work on a duck (bufflehead hen) I have in my freezer in a few weeks time hopefully and will be my first duck mount once I get to it. 

As of soft mounts, I actually tell a lot of beginners to start off doing a few mounts first before tackling a soft mount.  Doing a few shoulder/wall mounts and a few lifesize mounts will help give you some experience on the process on putting together mounts and will help you out when time comes to want to do a soft mount since you’ll know the basics.  I also recommend when you go about doing one to use a common animal like coyote and foxes for example since they are easier to do and would avoid trying to mount say a ranch fox as your first.  

I’d say for personal experience on soft mounts I’ve made in the past and found canines seem to make the best soft mounts since their anatomy just seems to work well with plush bodies.  I’ve done smaller animals like baby goats, martens, minks and muskrats and they weren’t as easy as I thought and their anatomy made them look a bit strange.  I would probably go for a fox or coyote as a first soft mount if you want to try something simple and won’t be too frustrated on working on it.
