Pectus Excavatum
k so this is my PE story. When I first noticed something was wrong with my chest was in grade two when I started to get chest pains. so I told my mom and she took me to the hospital to get it checked out. they sent me for x-rays and did an ECG and found nothing wrong. so they sent me on my way. I new there was something wrong as one side of my ribs is higher then the other. my yearly visits to the hospital for chest pains continued until last year in grade nine when my parents had taken me two times already to the hospital. now going two times in a year was not normal for me, but when I went for a third time everything changed. it was the same doctor who had looked at my x-rays from the two previous times had finally noticed that I had PE. He then sent me to my family doctor who then sent me to Dr. Dickens , a PE specialist. now I met with him and I was able to get surgery for non cosmetic reasons. I then went for MRIs and CAT scans to make sure my heart wasn't being affected as I was still having really bad chest pains. it turns out they weren't even close to touching my rib cage. so he then sent me to a cardiologist who in turn sent me for an ultra sound which did nothing as they cant see anything do to the PE. so I was sent to the hospital to get an ultra sound down my throat to see what was wrong. they found that I have mitral valve regurgitation. that is when the mitral valve does not close properly and blood leaks back through. if it worsens it can be fatal.. so that was the cherry on top. I am going to meet with PE specialist soon to talk about getting my surgery done. I need to get the ravitch and nuss procedure done as mine is near the end of my sternum. -.- not to happy but oh well you gotta do what you gotta do.
