What a great match! I'm super happy Corey Deuel won. 30-28 was way too close for comfort. The swings were brutal Mr. Deuel kept pulling ahead then losing his lead then ahead again. That was until about 21 to 20 I think then it seemed like Corey went into a funk maybe it was blood sugar, or something in the room got to him. For a few racks he seemed pretty unhappy, but he road it out and with a few brilliant racks managed to squeak past.
Danny Smith can really play great but emotions really colored his swings as well. It's super tough to concentrate when you are competing with the guy across the table and the guy in your heart.
I think watching the match the lesson for me was to play your game. When Corey was really on fire he was playing kinda unconventional one pocket. I feel like that's where his game always shines. He is a Innovator and has always looked at the game from a different angle. That makes it tough for folks to respond because they end up in places they might not have a tried and tested answer for. Where he runs into trouble sometimes, is when he plays within the conventional paradigm. Because there are people who might out shoot him. If he could give every shot his full attention that difference between him and folks who can out shoot him would shrink along way. But it seems like sometimes he short changes his approach to his set position and doesn't stand up and reset. He tries to shoot the shot from a less than perfect body geometry. This causes him to miss shots that he should be nearly 100% to make. But that's just my opinion and ya know what they say about those...
