Ray Lugo, es un músico venezolano afincado en New York, líder de la banda de afrobeat, funk y latín jazz Kokolo. Tras el proyecto de 2009 Ray Lugo's L.E.S. Express, dedicado al funk, ahora nos presenta este álbum dedicado al Boogaloo creando la banda The Boogaloo Destroyers. El álbum esta compuesto por clásicos del Latín Soul y el Boogaloo de Pete Rodriguez, El Gran Combo de Puerto Rico, Ray Barreto, Hector Rivera y Mongo Santamaría (Picao y Tostao), excepto el ultimo tema que es de Ray Lugo. Este ha ajustado las canciones aquí y allá, reorganizando algunas pistas y añadiendo nuevas letras y coros para dar con el sonido de un estilo propio. El resultado es una cápsula del tiempo de la fusión latina.
Publicado por Freestyle Records en 2011 cuenta con una amplia sección de metales, con colaboradores habituales como Chris Morrow al trombón o Casey Howard al saxo y flauta, Jake Fader a la guitarra y Neil Chastain, que se hace cargo de toda la percusión. Nacido a finales de los años sesenta en New York de la mezcla de la música latina con el Rhthym & Blues y el Soul, el boogaloo sufrió fuertes ataques de los criticos. Este álbum demuestra que en el siglo XXI, el boogaloo todavía está vivo en Nueva York.
