✨🦌Fairytale Friday🦌✨
Sit, Stay, Sleigh
Just when you think you know the story by heart, along comes a little dog with very big holiday spirit. This week’s feature is Olive, the Other Reindeer by Vivian Walsh and J. Otto Seibold, illustrated by J. Otto Seibold, in this delightful deluxe edition published by Chronicle Books in San Francisco in 2007.
Inspired by a misunderstood lyric from a familiar holiday song, the story follows Olive, a determined dog who is absolutely convinced she belongs on Santa’s sleigh team (and honestly, who are we to argue?). What follows is a playful, fast-paced adventure filled with bold illustrations, quirky humor, and clever paper engineering by Ray Marshall. The book leans fully into its joyful absurdity, celebrating imagination, determination, and the magic of believing you belong.
Vivian Walsh brings warmth and wit to the text, while J. Otto Seibold’s unmistakable artistic style, bright colors, whimsical shapes, and expressive characters make every page feel like a festive burst of fun. Together, they transform a familiar holiday tune into a story about confidence, inclusion, and the magic that happens when you believe, especially when everyone else says you don’t quite fit.
As the season fills with songs we’ve heard a thousand times, Olive, the Other Reindeer invites us to listen a little closer, laugh a little louder, and remember that there’s always room for one more, especially if they believe hard enough. Our copy is a gift of John Ridley.
