Okay so I've kept careful track and this is what I've gathered

Orange is a girl, uses she/her, and presents androgynously

Yellow is a cowboy (gender-wise and also literally), uses he/him, presents mostly androgynously, and is also gay

Green is a chef (gender-wise and also literally), uses they/them, and presents androgynously

Aqua is Assigned Girl By Seth, Assigned Aqua By Seth, uses she/her, and presents femininely

Blue is a man, uses he/him, presents femininely, and is gay

Seth is questioning their gender, uses they/them (thank you @/capnportofficial!!), and presents androgynously

In conclusion, the seven human flowers are so Gender

(Also this propagates my theory that all utdr humans are born agender (only two human or human-esque characters so far actually associate with a specific gender (Blue and Orange (not counting Aqua because she was Assigned Girl By Seth))))

Lgbt tma headcanons because I am bored (and also i am the woker and nobody is allowed to be allocishet (/silly))

Jonathan Sims - asexual {canon} - demiromantic - bi {canon to a degree} - he/him {canon} - doesn't consider gender as something important to him, but would raise an eyebrow if called something other than a man (not judgementally, just not used to it); would call himself a cis man if asked, simply because it's easier - never technically came out as bi, just started dating men one day and let his friends/family figure it out - dating martin {canon} - used to date georgie {canon}, and his relationship with her is what led him to realizing he was ace

Martin Blackwood - grayace - alloromantic - gay {canon to a degree} - he/they - was born a man and is a man, but considers himself trans because he doesn't view himself as a "traditional man," and he has experimented with gender enough that it feels wrong to call himself cis - never came out to his mom; when she cared enough to ask if he had a girlfriend, he would always just she/her his current partner or crush - intentionally avoids gendering people until they tell him their preferred pronouns and gendered terms - absolute hopeless romantic. when not in a relationship, typically has up to 3 crushes. crushes last anywhere between an hour to half a decade - dating jon {canon} - had a thing for tim once

Timothy Stoker - allosexual - gray+demiromantic, usually gets into relationships with the hopes of developing feelings, rather than dating people he already likes - bisexual {canon to a degree} - he/him {canon} - cis man (but is totally the type to think that 'cisgender' is transphobic and therefore doesn't like being called such) - invited his friends to hang out. was actually a surprise coming out party - definitely has a bi flag with his favorite celebrity or fictional character on it - EXCELLENT gaydar - dated sasha for like a week before they amiably broke up {canon (to a degree?)} - flirted with martin once, realized martin had a crush on him, and never flirted with him again (didn't want to start a relationship, not end up catching feelings, and break martin's heart) - flirts with jon because he thinks jon's reaction to it (absolute confusion) is the funniest shit ever

Sasha James - allosexual - alloromantic - bi with a pref for men - they/she - agender in the manner of "gender is a social construct and i am tired of people-pleasing;" doesn't bother to correct people unless they're in a particularly bad mood - only formally came out gender-wise to close friends, everybody else just figured out over time - never came out sexuality-wise, just started dating women one day - never formally came out as agender at the institute. everybody kind of just Knew - dated tim for like a week before they amiably broke up {canon (to a degree?)} - when the not!them replaced sasha, it's version of them was a woman (it isn't quite sentient enough to be transphobic, it just decided to be a woman as sasha). once the not!them is found out, this adds to everybody's guilt since they'd been unintentionally misgendering their dead friend

Melanie King - grayace (doesn't know/isn't labeled) - demiromantic (doesn't know/isn't labeled) - bi with a heavy pref for non-men - she/they/he - genderqueer - fine with all gendered terms ever - never actually came out in any fashion - most people just assume she's a cis lesbian woman, and she doesn't care enough to correct them (she thinks correcting people sounds arrogant (but ONLY when it comes to her. everybody else is justified (i do not agree with this))) - dating georgie {canon}

Basira Hussain - allosexual; respects but does not understand asexuality - gray+demiromantic (doesn't know/isn't labeled) - bi with no pref - she/they - demigirl - came out to her father and closest friends - had a Thing with daisy but they never labeled it beyond "police partners"

Alice "Daisy" Tonner - allosexual - alloromantic - bi with no pref - she/her {canon} - cis woman - never came out and doesn't particularly like people knowing she's bi - had a Thing with basira but they never labeled it beyond "police partners"

Georgie Barker - allosexual - demiromantic - bi with no pref - she/they - demigirl - formally came out to her friends and family. has been out and proud since - has mini pride flags in a vase on her desk - used to date jon {canon} - had like an extra two months of crushing on jon before he liked her too - was very supportive of jon's asexuality but always had an underlying worry of "is it just me?" that she felt really guilty about when she realized it - dating melanie {canon}

Gerard "Gerry" Keay - asexual - grayromantic - bi with a pref for men - he/him {canon} - trans man - transitioned while mary was haunting him. for a while, told himself it was to upset her, before finally admitting to himself that he was, indeed, actually trans - named himself after gerard way - was stealth at the institute, but between gaydar and Knowing, most people knew anyway - had a Thing with michael that was somewhere between romantic and queerplatonic, but was never labeled - VERY well educated on queer history/terminology/etc. (both because of Knowing and also because he refuses to be uneducated about anything even slightly important to him ever)

Michael Shelley - asexual - grayromantic - pan - it/he/xe/she - unlabeled gender - realized being queer was a thing when overhearing gossip about gerry. asked gertrude, and she had gerry begrudgingly educate it - never realized that feeling disconnected from gender wasn't "normal" before coming out - gerry was its queer awakening both in that he taught it about being queer and that he was its first guy crush - lots of flags, pins, stickers, magnets, etc. very loud and proud about being queer - had a Thing with gerry that was somewhere between romantic and queerplatonic, but was never labeled - disconnection with gender got more extreme post-distortion

Helen Richardson - allosexual - alloromantic - bi (doesn't know/isn't labeled) - she/her {canon}, she/it/they post-distortion - cis woman, unlabeled gender post-distortion - doesn't really know that being queer is an option? - doesn't realize that the Feelings she occasionally has for women are, in fact, Feelings - the distortion has a level of gender-fuckery to it that disconnects people from the concept of gender. it just has gender stealer vibes idk man

Agnes Montague - asexual - aro spectrum - pan on the level that she isn't romance-inclined enough to stop and figure out if she actually has any preference at all - she/her - cis woman, but only on a level that she doesn't have enough time to sit and realize that's Not Quite It - dated jack barnabas for a while {canon} - literally gertrude's soulmate {canon/heavily implied}. they were queerplatonic about each other, but nothing ever came of it - never acknowledged jude's (canon) thing for her

Gertrude Robinson - grayace (doesn't know/isn't labeled) - aromantic (doesn't know/isn't labeled) - pan on the level that she isn't romance-inclined enough to stop and figure out if she actually has any preference at all - she/her - cis woman - has homophobic vibes fsr - has threatened people who've intentionally misgendered gerry but otherwise is not loud about supporting queer people - literally agnes' soulmate {canon/heavily implied}. they were queerplatonic about each other, but nothing ever came of it

edit: while rereading i think i may have projected my asexuality and gender-fuckery onto these characters too much?? :')

I know most people headcanon separated/human John to be really expressive but hear me out. Human John who is not expressive at all.

Elaboration below

Common: John not being used to having to control his facial expressions. John accidentally being INCREDIBLY expressive because of this. John not realizing he is being expressive at all because he can't see his own face.

I raise you: John is not used to having a full face to express his emotions with. He is used to eyes, a hand, and a foot. Because of this, he only really makes facial expressions when he is intentionally going "hey! I am happy! see that i am happy and recognize it!" (or any emotional equivalent of that).

However, when John isn't THINKING about being expressive, his face is blank. He is staring blankly forever and always.

UNTIL somebody gets to know him, and they actually pay attention to everything but his face. (Aka now I am going to expand upon this base headcanon.)

I imagine that human/separated John is mostly expressive through small things like the tilt of his head, posture, and hand movement. And also that none of this is really on purpose. It kind of just happens. And also also his eyes are also pretty telling of his emotion!!

When he's angry, his head is tilted down slightly, his shoulders are back/posture is straight, his hands are at his sides in fists. Which one is in a fist depends on how angry he is. He's used to having only a left hand. Just the right hand means pissy but not going to do anything. Just the left means pissy and maybe going to do something. Both means actually angry and potentially dangerous. Also, generally, his eyes are darker, and he doesn't blink much (this is not projection at all wdym???).

When he's happy, his head is up, his shoulders are back/posture his straight, and his hands are MOVING. He may stand still, but it is only because all of the energy is stored in his hands. I imagine that slightly happy would be like drumming his fingers on the table or smth and then absolutely ecstatic is like shaking his hands frantically or even lightly hitting somebody (like. arthur gets him a gift and instead of thanking him or smiling kindly or something, john just starts hitting him in the shoulder repeatedly /ex). And I know I said he wouldn't be facially expressive but I also imagine that he would have an "upside down smile" except it genuinely looks like a frown most of the time (arthur gets him a gift part 2 except john just frowns at him. arthur never gets him a gift ever again /silly).

When he's sad, his head is tilted down and to the side slightly, his posture is more hunched and his shoulders are forward, and his hands are behind his back (unless he is standing). His hands are always folded, typically with it looking like the right hand is holding the left (because. because he imagines arthur is on the other end. because jarthur. can anybody hear me.). His eyebrows are also slightly furrowed, though that's just my way of giving it more distinction from his angry look.

There are more ideas I have for different emotions but I've already typed enough words and I already sound like I've thought about this too much (which I have) so I'll leave it there.

Im going insane i have a VERY vivid memory of seeing something about Jonny Sims saying that Jonny d'Ville is canonically omni?? And everybody was like "oh yeah that tracks" and it was a commonly talked about thing??? But I can't find anybody talking about it, let alone the original confirmation????

Noel stopping and talking to John is part of John's trans allegory (being heard for who you are for the first time and being allowed to actually speak as yourself) and I will not hear criticism on this

Looking at this scene with the perspective of John's humanity (and his name) being an allegory for being transgender HURTS. Every single time John is referred to as the King, or somebody mocks his name, it hurts. Larson forcing John to admit that he was the King, it hurts.

I know he's literally a humanized piece of a god hellbent on terrorizing humanity... but I see myself in John. I see every queer person who has ever faced homophobia/transphobia/etc, or has been unwillingly forced to come out, or told it was something they'd outgrow, or deadnamed or misgendered.

Am I being too sentimental over this? Perhaps. But it's so nice to see this in a story that's not at all about being queer.
