Alyut Wakes Up to a Dream

Alyut yawned as the sound of sparrows frolicking in the dawn awakened him from his deep slumber.
“Ahhh…” he sighed as he continued to roll under his bed covers, not yet wanting to tackle the morning cold.
Hmmm…? Is it just me or does my voice sound a pitch higher than normal? Alyut’s sleepy brain wondered.
He shrugged, blaming his sluggish thoughts for conjuring up such fantasies. His soft white linen sheets continue to hug him as he rolled over onto his left side, wiggling and curling up to a more comfortable position. Something soft and roundish in shape pressed into his chest and arm. Initially passing it off as just his bed sheets hugging onto him, his slow mind eventually processed that this circular bulbous protrusion was quite warm. Too warm to be that of a blanket. Curious, Alyut’s fingers reach up and gently explored this unusually soft object, cupping his hand around the object in question, yet still could not logically pinpoint what it was.
Alyut opened his eyes. Something didn’t feel… right.
Reluctant to expose himself to the cold, he finally did so when he slowly lifted his bed covers up and peaked his head inside. And promptly wished he did not.
“EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!”
A high pitched squeal emitted from Alyut’s door, filling up the entire male dormitory. Fortunately for Alyut, everyone was already downstairs having breakfast, and thus no one had heard him. Unfortunately, Alyut now had to deal with Alyut’s current predicament.
In a flurry of white as bed covers were tossed aside, Alyut’s curvaceous figure leapt out of the bed despite the cold. Heart fluttering in panic, Alyut peaked down to confirm his suspicions. Or her suspicions in this case.
Her view was filled with the image of her own very smooth soft and full breasts. Alyut stared in shock as she curiously reached up and gently squeezed one of the breasts, half hoping them to be just a dream gone wrong. Her plump lush lips parted into a sideways ‘D’ as she continued to stare and squeeze.
Still unconvinced what she was seeing was just was not right, she moved her supple butter smooth legs towards her wardrobe door and opened it. Alyut was greeted with the reflection of a very beautiful and curvy yet slim feminine body which even Lunaris would be jealous of. Mouth still open in aghast, she twisted her lower half to inspect her rear.
Yep. Everything’s changed. Except my hair… I’VE BEEN GENDERBENT! OH GOD!
Suddenly, the door handle jerked down, signaling an intruder about to enter. There a brief pause as the person attempted to open the door.
Alyut panicked. She grabbed the fallen bed covers and raised it up to her pointed chin before the intruder could bust her. The door swung open quickly as a clatter of platter clinking accompanied the intruder into Alyut’s privacy.
“Hey Alyut, I brought you breakfast in bed for your birthday!” greeted Raydn cheerfully.
“Oh…” he paused as he saw Alyut’s naked form standing with her bed covers raised.
“seems like you already got out of bed, huh?”
Alyut’s heart started to flutter faster as she continued to stand awkwardly as Raydn glanced around for a suitable place to put down his tray of self cooked breakfast. She could hear it thumping rapidly as it pressed against her breast.
“Uh… So where should I place this?” Raydn asked.
“Behi-” squeaked Alyut, stopping abruptly.
Alyut blushed in embarrassment as Raydn raised an eyebrow. Alyut grasped the sheet carefully with one hand, making sure to not let it drop too low. She pointed with the other to a small cabinet stand behind her. Raydn started to move towards the cabinet top, aware that his friend was turning around so that Alyut’s covered front always followed him.
“You know, you’ve got nothing to hide. I mean, come on, we’re both guys!” he said as he set the cutlery down with a clink.
Alyut stared at Raydn as his powerful biceps bulged and stretched slightly, pulling his back shoulder muscles with them as he straightened back up. Unaware of Alyut’s scrutiny of his anatomy, Raydn finally indicated he was about to leave.
“Would you like some tea too?” he asked as he walked to the door.
“Okay,” squeaked Alyut reflexively, out of habit.
Alyut instinctively pulled the bed sheets past her chin to cover her mouth, quickly using her other hand to bring up the left side as it was slipping dangerously low. Fortunately, Raydn’s back was turned.
Raydn paused, frowning at Alyut’s odd voice, It’s probably just the cold tightening his voice like that.
“Well, I’ll go get some tea for you then,” he said as he closed the door gently behind him

Alyut stood silently for a few moments, still tensed up with the sudden encounter with her best friend. Certain that Raydn would not be coming back, she relaxed, slacking her fingers as they let go of her cover protection. The white linen fell with a soft whump as Alyut sighed in contemplation of her predicament.
Suddenly, the door flew open with a crash, with a very hurried Raydn behind it.
“I forgot to ask! Did you want sug-”
“. . .” said Raydn.
“ . . . . . . . . . . .” replied Alyut.
Raydn’s jaw dropped.
Alyut blushed a deep beetroot red as she attempted, and failed, to cover her breasts and privates with her delicate slender fingers.
“Uhh…” Raydn uttered awkwardly as his eyes traversed Alyut’s curvaceous and voluptuous mountains from head to toe and back a few times.
“Wow, Alyut, I never knew you were a gi-”
Whump
Whump. Whump. Whump. Whump.
“Ow!” he exclaimed as Alyut smacked him several times with a pillow.
“I’m not a girl!” squealed Alyut with a scowl on her heart shaped face.
“Are you sur- OW!”
Several whumpings later, Alyut finally backed off, her slender shoulders slouching slightly as her energy drained. Raydn rubbed his sore head, his wild spiky fringe all beaten flat.
“I don’t get why you never told me, I mean you’re beau-”
SMACK
His other hand reflexively reached to his stinging red face as he continued to stare at Alyut’s bare form, dumbfound.
Alyut’s chest moved up and down as she breathed heavily from her beating exercise on poor Raydn.
“Get out!” shrieked Alyut, pointing a slender arm at the door.
“O-okay, Alyut” stammered Raydn as he raised off the floor.
Eyes still as wide as the eggs he had fried for Alyut and trying not to look back (even though Alyut's image was burned into his mind), he slowly made his way to the door.
Alyut’s breathing finally settled as she watched Raydn’s muscular arms stretch slightly as he reached for the handle.
“. . .”
Raydn’s sturdy figure was halfway through the door when Alyut reclined.
“actually… Could you come back?” asked Alyut shyly.
Raydn’s eyes widened even further as he slowly backed into the room once more.
“...I’m a bit cold,” said Alyut as she gently collected the bed covers off the floor, bending her angelic like legs in the process.
“Would you like me to help you with that…?” ventured Raydn cautiously.
“Yes please, and lock the door behind you,” smiled Alyut sweetly, the corners of her fluffy pink lips gently dipping towards her elven like eyes.
Raydn grinned as he locked the door behind him, “Never knew this was what you dreamt for your birthday!”

“I’ve got your back if you’ve got mine!” grinned the black haired spearman as he casually thrusted the heavy lance into an unfortunate orc.
It let out a gurgling squeal from its crimson pig snout before collapsing and disappearing under the mass of his fallen comrades.
Alyut smiled and nodded his head once before leaning forward for an overhead slash. The light danced across his blade as he closed in from a half circle spin for a forehand finish.
A clatter of bones on the red stained earth marked the end of the last of their enemies. The skeleton king’s round helmet rolled towards Alyut’s foot, stopping with a soft clang.
The only sound that could be heard now was the deep inhaling of the two friends as they lowered their weapons.
The spearman in blue and gold planted his two tarnished lances into the ground and reached up to adjust the remains of his winged circlet.
“That was a close one, you know,” remarked Alyut, pointing his black gloved index finger at the fragmented edge of the left wing.
The blue wing, trimmed with gold, had been shattered at the tip when, at some point in battle, a flock of empusa’s descended on the pair. Poor Raydn took the brunt of the gold loving monsters, having most of his gold embroidered armour scratched or fragmented. His water abilities had a hard time driving the thunder back and needed Alyut’s assistance.
“Yeah, those gold loving half-chickens wouldn’t even come down for a fair fight” grunted Raydn as he rolled his eyes.
“Well, it’s all over now, we’ll just wait for Farlon, Ophelia, Rina and Lunaris to catch up,”
“Where do you suppose all these monsters came from?” questioned Raydn as he walked around and surveyed the pile of deceased bodies which were littered in a rough circle around them.
“I don’t know… Perhaps Sodis enlisted them in his cause to fight against the Gods in exchange for their freedom…”
Raydn’s footsteps came to a halt before replying, “Come now, Alyut. Surely there is another meaning behind your brother’s actions. He is the most rational man I’ve ever met!”
But Alyut had entered a morbid state as he continued to gaze at the bloodstained ground, not considering his friend’s words.
“Possibly… Possibly but…” Alyut started, but stopped as a dark countenance crossed his visage.
“Hmm? But what, Alyut?”
Curious, Raydn made his way back to Alyut.
“I’m sure Sodis has good intentions at heart, Alyut. I’m sure of it!” said Raydn supportively as he wrapped his arm around his friend’s shoulder.
But Alyut jerked away abruptly and spun around to face him, eyes ablaze.
“If you’re so sure, why don’t you be one of Sodis’ followers?!” said Alyut icily.
The cool-headed spearman widened his eyes slightly but none the less, crossed his arms, standing his ground against his unreasoning friend.
It must be especially hard on Alyut, having to face the betrayal of his older brother and idol, thought Raydn.
“I was merely suggesting that you have a word with your brother instead of rushing at him at first sight,” he said calmly, “you know full well that you don’t have the power and skill to match him,”
Alyut’s strained face relaxed as he grunted and nodded briefly, “I’m not strong enough, Raydn… I need to be stronger and quickly,”
“Sadly, that won’t happen unless some miracle from the Gods bestow you this power,” snorted Raydn.
“It’s said that Sodis had enough power to rival that of the Gods. How will I ever hold him off even with their blessing?” asked Alyut fearfully.
“True power comes from knowing what’s worth fighting and worth protecting,” smiled Raydn as he once more wrapped his arm around his comrade.
Alyut turned his head slightly and met Raydn’s warm yet cool gaze. Memories of when he first gazed into his friend’s rose coloured eyes stimulated the same warm feeling from within once more.
“Yes, yes you’re right,” smiled Alyut in return.
Unbuckling his thick, leather encased sheath, his bloodstained sword briefly flashed in the setting sun before disappearing into the black case. He callously dropped his sheathed sword before collapsing onto the hard ground in exhaustion. Seeing Alyut in a more relaxed manner and pleased that his words finally reached Alyut’s heart, Raydn sat down with him. Raydn brushed a few stray strands of his friend’s smooth silver hair away before leaning on the soft fur trimmed shoulder in content. Alyut closed his eyes and dipped his head against Raydn’s, a tired sigh escaping his lips.
“I still recommend you use conditioner…” said the persistent Alyut for the tenth time as his face brushed against Raydn’s wild dark hair.
His friend snorted once more and wriggled around before settling in a more comfortable position, his muscles relaxing in the process. After a few moments, the couple huddled closer and were about to drift off to sleep when a shrill voice pierced the air.
“Awaken, faithful water and light Guardians! Enemies approach!”
“Listen carefully! An insurmountable number of enemies come from the north crest of the nearby hills! My surveillance has indicated that their movement will be to flank your allies in the south and prevent them from assisting you while they leave their tougher opponents to face you!”
Raydn groaned at the alarm clock voice as he sat up rubbed his eyes groggily.
How does Alyut stay sane with that thing yapping away with every order or report? thought Raydn in wonder as he tightened his belt and reached for his fractured circlet.
He winced as the blinding bright ball of yellow light hovered past him to where Alyut was still getting up. Alyut leaned on one arm as he sluggishly got up to a crouch.
“Hurry! The enemy army will be here shortly! You’ll be resting here eternally if you don’t gear up and prepare!” remarked the messenger angel snappishly as it seemingly bounced up and down on top of Alyut’s head.
“We’ll have to hold them off until reinforcements come, Alyut. We can’t turn south to meet our friends or else we’ll run into the flanking group. Then we’ll have to deal with both the forefront assault and rear flank attack,” advised Raydn with a sigh.
He closed his eyes and rubbed them with his thumbs and index to get his sleep induced drowsy eyes stimulating.
“Just when I thought we saw the last of them,” muttered Alyut as he buckled up and unsheathed his blood caked sword once more.
Alyut brought the blade up to his eyes for an inspection and tsked.
Seems like those empusa didn’t leave empty clawed after all, thought Alyut wirily as he inspected several missing inlaid gems.
The sword was a bit battered and chipped in several places with the tip caked with dried blood from their enemies. The blood had dribbled down to the hilt when Alyut had held it angled upright in a ready stance during battle. It left a vein like stain trail.
Raydn observed the missing gems in Alyut’s sword and retorted; “This is why you don’t embed gems in your weapons. So you don’t invoke thieves. It also adds unnecessary weight,” he added, wagging his finger in the process.
Alyut took his eyes off his disappointing weapon and gazed at Raydn, pouting slightly.
Their light exchange was cut short when a sudden gust of downwind from the north brought with it the sounds of war cries and roars from their enemy. Quickly leaping up onto the balls of his feet, Alyut planted his back once more against Raydn’s.
“One more round, my friend,” whispered Alyut, bringing the tip of sword past shoulder height in a ready stance once more.
They were ready. Or so they thought they were.
After a few moments, the atmosphere grew eerily quiet. Not even a natural breeze stirred. A shadow greeted them first. It crawled over the pile of bodies before overlapping the two Guardians. They could feel the ground shaking from the footfalls of some massive being. Raydn gritted his teeth as his grip tightened on the handles of his lances. Alyut narrowed his eyes in anticipation. The messenger angel had fled and was nowhere to be seen.
Suddenly, a red horned visage peaked through the crest of the dead. It’s crimson eyes filled with the hatred of humans born over the span of hundreds of years. The duo’s image of their foe was short lived, however, as it opened its massive maw, unleashing a metal melting flaming breath which burned the air as it shot towards them.
The pair’s survival instinct kicked in as Alyut dashed towards the left and Raydn divebombed to the right. The explosion further propelled the pair farther from each other. Alyut could feel his steel boots warming up from the blast and glancing back made him wince. The spot where they stood was now a sunken pit of black burning soot and ashes. Quickly returning upright on the balls of his feet, Alyut faced their opponent once more.
His face dropped a couple shades in colour. What they faced was no ordinary fire drake. It was Dalimaone, King of all fire dragons. Sweat and panic began to build up in Alyut as he was held captive in the mesmerising gaze of Dalimaone’s burning eyes. The Fire Dragon King unfurled its bone armoured wings and reared on its hind legs as he unleashed a triumphant roar. Flames lit up in its cavernous maw as it shot a stream of lava at the ground surrounding them, engulfing the battlefield with searing hot flames. Whatever sparse vegetation quickly gave way under the wrathful fire.
The disgusting smell of sweet charred bodies filled Raydn’s nostrils as he coughed. Quickly scanning the field, he saw standing Alyut directly in front of Dalimaone’s trail of destruction.
“Alyut, watch out!” roared Raydn at the top of his lungs.
His companion made no movement as his gaze was still fixated to the dragon’s paralysing stare. Cursing, Raydn full sprinted towards his helpless comrade, all the while his battle senses calculating the distance and timing of Dalimaone’s fiery breath. Pumping his legs as fast as he could, he readied his lances, drawing up his command of water and channelling it towards his weapons. Water quickly flowed in a spiral down his lances, spraying him with a cooling mist in the process.
Alyut’s petrified open mouth face quickly raced up to him, as well as fire from his peripheral vision. Raydn gritted his teeth as he prepared to counter the burning flames.
“Atlantis!” shouted Raydn as he leap tackled Alyut from the side with his left shoulder while unleashing a torrential tempest at the fiery beast’s maw. Steam briefly filled the battlefield as a stream of fire and water collided but it quickly cleared.
An angry growl shook Alyut to his senses as his vision broke off from Dalimaone’s. After gasping for breath for a short duration from hitting the ground, he quickly leapt up, picking up his sword in the process. Seeing an opening from the rearing dragon, Alyut quickly sprinted towards it, gracefully dodging it’s trunk like flailing limbs. Pulling all his might and power behind his sword he struck the thick scales of the dragon’s underside with a leaping overhead sidecut.
“Sacred Raaaiin!” he screamed.
A blinding light erupted at the point of contact followed by an angry pain filled roar. Before Alyut could survey his work, a heavy claw smacked into his sides, scraping his pelvis bone in the process. Vitally shredding his silver armour as if it were a thin piece of foil, he sailed through the air, leaving behind a thick arc trail of red fluid.
He landed with a bone shattering crunch on the hot hard ground. His opposite hand immediately reflexively reached for his injured side. Or lack of it.
Alyut involuntarily looked down and gasped in shock to see his remaining armour and clothing stained with his viscous life fluid as it gushed out uncontrollably, spilling onto the razed ground and mingling with the dried blood of their enemies. His vision suddenly began to swim as the ground lurched beneath him. His mind started losing focus as fast as the blood draining from him but was brought back when the shock of his wound subsided and an explosion of fiery, knife like pain erupted from the surrounding area below his right ribs.
Alyut screamed.
After moments of torturous pain, his voice gurgled and gave way as blood filled his right lung. His body forced him to cough and gasp for breath as he vomited out blood before collapsing motionless onto the ground.
“Al----uut?! NOOo-----oo!!!!!...” a garbled voice filtered through the nausea followed by a familiar sound of pounding footsteps.
“Ugh.. ugh…. ugh…….” his own groan reverberated through his slipping consciousness as he tried to keep his eyes from closing. Regardless of what he tried, his vision seemed to be gradually diminishing despite the surrounding flames. He felt as if something was pressing against his right lung, unaware that it had collapsed. Trying to draw a shuddering breath, his sticky trembling fingers lost feeling, followed by his arm as the numbness slowly took over his body.
What’s happening…? Alyut thought, his mind sluggish.
He vaguely felt something warm wrap around his face as it called his name over and over, the voice diminishing with each syllable. It said something about not to giving up.
Give up… what...? He wondered as the soothing darkness finally claimed him.
Alyut’s limp bloodstained arm slowly fell to the ground with a dull thump as the light left his closing eyes.
Moments of silence passed as Raydn continued to kneel in a pool of his friend's blood with his hands clasped around Alyut’s ghastly pale face. What felt like hours traversed as he continued to stare with incomprehension at the figure who had, just a few minutes ago, valiantly struck down the powerful dragon with lively energy. He remembered running towards him, to congratulate him, as the bright flash dimmed. But when his eyes finally adjusted, the spot where the silver Guardian had stood was empty. His eyes automatically followed the trail of tainted silver litter on the ground, eventually reaching the body of a broken figure.
And then an soul shattering shriek burst from his friend’s gaping mouth as he writhed on the red earth uncontrollably.
Panic and worry instantly welled up as he instinctively ran towards his friend, ignoring the dull roaring of Dalimaone in the background.
“ALYUUUUT?!?” he cried, his voice raising as he realised how badly injured his dear friend was.
The sight which beholded him was more gruesome and devastating up close.
“NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!..........”
Dropping his lances with a loud clatter, he immediately knelt next to dying friend, unaware of the blood soaking through his pants as he tenderly wrapped his quaking hands around Alyut’s pale face. No amount of self control could reign in the panic as he helplessly witnessed the life leaving Alyut’s eyes.
“I… I promised you…” a broken whisper escaped his cracked lips.
“... to protect you with my life …”
Raydn choked as his throat tightened. His eyes fought back the water he could not control. A profound sadness welled up deep within his humble kneeling form. Burying his grime smudged face against Alyut’s angelic white, he felt warm droplets trace a clean path down his face. Clutching onto Alyut’s still form, refusing to let go, he released his sorrow and emotions loose, sobbing uncontrollably. Never had anyone seen the cool-headed Raydn in such a state. And never will there be anyone to witness it.
A deep soulful wail filled the air, even drowning out the continuous bellowing of the heavily injured dragon. The wail was full of cold sorrow and loss. The cry reached up and touched the hearts of the heavens, causing it to shed its tears for its humble comrade.
Pat pat pat…
The pillow soft sound of the rain descended, lightly tapping Raydn as if in attempt to comfort him.
Suddenly, a loud rumble from beneath almost caused the fallen spearman to lurch across Alyut’s still form. His hand lying on top of Alyut’s heart as he steadied himself, he felt a small pulsating beat. It was so faint, he was sure he was dreaming.
Yet he felt it again!
Eyes wide with hope, it quickly diminished as he realised there was nothing within his power to heal or save his dying friend.
The ground moved under his legs once more, followed by a keening roar. The furious dragon began charging up for one last fiery finish; flames surged into its pointed black hole as its burning eyes directed to the pair that had dealt its fatal wound.
Raydn instinctively reached for his trustworthy spear. But stopped when he saw Alyut’s half buried sword still embedded in the dragon’s stomach. He felt a brief flush of pride at Alyut’s handiwork but was quickly drowned by his burning desire of revenge.
Screaming in angest, his grief melted to anger as he charged towards the wounded dragon. His blazing fury rivalled that of the fiery beast as he poured his feelings into the blade, driving it further towards its heart. The dragon bellowed in agony as it lurched on its hind quarters. The ground around them began shaking and quaking as eruptions of lava burst forth from the Earth’s core.
“THIS IS ONLY THE TIP THE ICEBERG OF SORROW!”
Roared the Spear King as he drove the blade even deeper.
Water swirled up around him as it quenched the eruptions. His eyes ablaze, yet tears still pouring, he let the coldness of loss seep deep from him heart and through his hands into Alyut’s blade. Ice slowly formed at the hilt, withstanding the temperatures of the fire dragon’s fury, it quickly accelerated towards the wound opening.
GWAAAAAAAAAAHHWW!!!
The dragon reared even more, shaking the fracturing ground. Never had it felt such coldness and pain! It burned. Yet it felt cold… Like burning ice.
Extending its great leathery wings, it tried to lift itself off the ground in an attempt to subjugate the pain. But the small figure which clung to its belly gave no mercy.
The fiery battlefield had been quenched in coldness. Frost permeated everything except the two combatants. The sorrowful Spear King gave one last almighty heart filled thrust, burying the blade right up to its golden crosspiece.
Atlast, the flaming eyes of Dalimaone ceased, the greyish crimson scaly hide of the beast dimming to ash. It teetered on its thick hind legs for a few seconds before falling backwards slowly as the ground dragged it down.
Raydn’s vivid red eyes dulled. He had nothing now. And nothing worth fighting for. With the murderer of Alyut now dead he had nothing left. Except the cold.
He numbly made his way back to Alyut’s body, his feet dragging along the frost covered ground, his feeling to the world was gone.
“I’m sorry, Alyut…” rasped Raydn.
His bloodstained knees hitting the cold floor as he felt for any signs of life from his friend. He waited.
His hands received nothing.
Sighing in devastation and submission, he restrained himself from collapsing on his deceased friend.
thump
He felt it. A small pulse. Almost negligible even.
Puzzled at such a phenomenon, Raydn gazed down at Alyut’s massive wound. It had stopped flowing as the blood froze from such a cold atmosphere.
The cold slows down blood circulation and all other bodily functions…
Realisation dawned on his face as he comprehended the possibility that he could actually save his dear friend.
If I can muster my command on the cold, I can preserve Alyut as he currently is. There is still hope!
Wasting no time, for every millisecond was a grain closer to the gates of death, Raydn stood up and took arms of his lances once more. He bared no mind to his hands suddenly adhering to the cold metal as he broke them free from the frozen ground.
Raydn stood a few metres away from the body, planting his feet slightly apart, he closed his eyes as he concentrated on his task.
He mentally envisioned Alyut’s form. Perfect in every way. His soft features, hidden away under a curtain of long silver blue hair. His silver chestplate armour, flashing gold in the morning sun. His hardened hands, wrapped in the black sleeves of his priestlike garment with a perfectly round golden ring encompassing his central finger. A royal blue flowed to his ankles, the fabric so smooth, its colours so beautiful as it shifted from silver white, to blue to indigo. His silver boots, so clean despite the constant wear.
Perfect in every way.
The hope of restoring him to this once perfect being rests in my hands.
Water sprung up around him, drawing deep into the bowels of the Earth for the purest and cleanest water that ever existed.
Water brings life…
The clear liquid poured towards the silver haired Guardian, gently lifting him in the air from below. His hair bellowed beneath him, almost like an angelic pair of wings.
It cleans and purifies…
The water flowed and wrapped across the blood stains and wounds, cleaning if of inflections.
And lastly, it has the power to preserve life…
The ground separating Raydn from Alyut shook and trembled.
Tccckkkk. Craack!
Pieces of earth slowly rose off from the fractured ground, frost and dust misting the air. Rubble of all sizes made way for the desires of the Spear King. The rocks obediently moved out until a black hole gaped in front of him. A brief moment of silence settled before a gushing spray of water fountained forth! It raised up and swirled around, taking up half the battlefield in a brilliant typhoon before being directed to the suspended body. It surged over the body, encasing in a water tomb. Then slowly, the surface of the liquid stilled. Small crystal fractals appeared on the outermost layer of the cocoon, rapidly expanding inward, the temperature around the body dropping steeply to absolute zero. Then, as quick as a flash flood, it was over. The body with barely a life force was now safely preserved in a frozen statis, waiting to be awoken once it was safe. The earth slowly moved towards the ice tomb, adhering to it to form a thick barrier to prevent the ice from shattering.
The statis of ice and earth descended once more to the mortal plane.
A darkness quickly overcame Raydn as he collapsed in exhaustion, his the last trickle of his power leaving him. His spears still frozen in his grasp, his last thoughts lingered in his mind;
True power comes from knowing what’s worth fighting and worth protecting…
The Night Time Patrol

The night air was silent and desolate, with the only sounds emitting from the two warriors patrolling the perimeters of the La Veda style stone castle. The castle was uniquely structured, having three curtain walls instead of the usual four with sheltered towers at each corner. They were arranged in a triangular fashion with the headquarters built in the centre of the triangular barrier and the stables, training grounds, barracks and other facilities scattered around the heart. While the rest of the Twelve Guardian of the Gods slept peacefully in their dorms, it was Alyut and Raydn's turn to do the night rounds.
It was an unusually frigid night with temperatures dropping below the scale and the air frozen still. Shivering, Alyut wrapped his fur cloak tighter, attempting to conserve all possible body warmth. Looking around with his piercing blue eyes, he once again, observed nothing unusual in the open grounds in front of him. Pulling his bare hands out in front of him, he inhaled the sharp air and blew on them while rubbing. To his misery, the warmth evaporated as fast as his wispy breath in the air. Sodis insisted that flame torches were forbidden during night time patrols as it would hamper night vision but Alyut begged to disagree.
Not even Farlon's fiery spirit can keep himself burning through this freezing night. Let alone have the energy to keep vigilant, thought Alyut wiry.
Trying to get his blood circulating again (for he had stood still too long and felt his feet going numb), Alyut patrolled across the southern wall. He could roughly distinguish Raydn's distant figure on the north-western wall, making his rounds with his back to him. After reaching the sheltered spire at the end of the rampart, Alyut turned back to begin retracing his steps. Suddenly, he burst into a coughing fit before he could take a single step. Alyut could not do anything but succumb as he leaned on the flagstones for support, the cold air enveloping his lungs.
Alyut's frozen hands tried to grasp the stone walls and could barely hear running foots steps over his gagging.
"Alyut... are you okay? Are you cold?" whispered Raydn, concern filling his gentle voice and warm rose coloured eyes. He crouched down, level with Alyut’s pallor visage.
Alyut turned away, his face flushed in embarrassment, hoping the darkness of the night would cover for him. He did not want Raydn to see him in such a weak state.
"It's only a cough..." rasped Alyut, muffling his voice with his cloak and back turned.
Unsatisfied with his answer, Raydn moved closer and gently wrapped his hands around Alyut's.
"Alyut, you're freezing!" whispered Raydn, sympathy radiating from his voice.
Alyut's hands quickly filled with the warmth pouring from Raydn. He could feel the gentle pulsing of Raydn's heartbeat under his skin while in his grasp.
"You have very soft hands..." murmured Alyut unconsciously.
"Huh? What was that?" asked Raydn, puzzled.
"I-it was nothing!"
Alyut blushed again, this time, unable to conceal it from the close proximity of Raydn's eyes.
"Oh Alyut, you're warming up again," said Raydn cheerfully, "I was worried when you suddenly started hacking and coughing as if some Dark Spirit casted an unholy spell on you,"
Alyut could feel his coldness gradually seeping away as his body filled with warmth from a source he could not pin point.
"Alyut, your face is still very pale... Are you sure you're all right? I could patrol this area for you if you want," offered Raydn.
As much as Alyut wanted to agree to those kind and soft words, he did not want to seem so powerless to the cold. Especially in front of Raydn.
"It's all right, Raydn. I feel better and... warmer when you're here with me," sighed Alyut in comfort.
"O-Oh...?"
Suddenly worried that Raydn felt awkward at such words, Alyut glanced up fearfully but was pleasantly surprised when he felt Raydn's thick dark hair brushing against his face as he leaned on Alyut's shoulder.
"Well, if you're staying, then best you warm up," said Raydn, softly.
Alyut did not object this time. For the first time in a very long period, Alyut finally felt comfortable.
"Raydn, you make me feel so warm..." said Alyut, opening up a little.
He could no longer feel the coldness of the night. It was like a separate world all together. Just being next to his fellow Guardian- no, his special Guardian, changed something inside of him.
Alyut pulled his hand away from Raydn's and stroked his thick, wild hair. Puzzled, Raydn tilted his head and gave Alyut a questioning look.
"You need to use more conditioner, Raydn," advised Alyut, "it would look more beautiful and smooth,"
"But, Alyut, I like it like this. Besides, only you use conditioner,"
Alyut chuckled softly, but then stopped. When was the last time he ever laughed? He could not remember...
Raydn smiled at the sound of Alyut's brief laugh, it was so long since he heard it. Gazing up and meeting Alyut's eye, he saw that his best friend's sharp eyes finally softened.
After a few moments, Raydn leaned away. His friend’s gaze never leaving his face and absorbing every movement. Raydn reached up to where his scarf laid and started unpinning it. He was very fond of his scarf, washing it often so that it remained pure white like the day he received it. Raydn paused for a moment, reflecting back to when his dear mother gave him this scarf to keep warm from the harsh wintery winds of the North Sama kingdom. The brooch was a gift from his father along with his final words, “Never neglect your duty, son. You make me proud to be chosen as one of the Twelve Guardians at such a young age. Your diligence and hard work has paid off.”
The soft scarf, filled with love and memories, fell loosely onto his lap. Clasping both his scarf and brooch in each hand, he offered it to Alyut.
“Please take this, Alyut. Let it keep you warm and safe and fill you with happiness like it did for me,”
Slightly wide eyed in pleasant surprise, Alyut stammered, “B-But Raydn, that scarf means so much to you…”
“More the reason to give it to someone who is dear to me.” He pressed the gifts into Alyut’s hands in which the later received gratefully.
The scarf was so soft and gentle, just like his friend. It gave the scent of a fresh minty cool fragrance. Alyut suddenly felt a surge of happiness and sense of acceptance burst from deep within his core. He could no longer contain his new found feelings now, his lost self found new resolve as he fully embraced his comrade. Raydn stiffened at such a sudden gesture but quickly relaxed. For how long they embraced, they did not know.
The freezing night temperature now felt significantly warmer.
-------------------------------- Morning -------------------------------
"Hmm, brother, you seem a lot more cheerful than your usual stern self. Is that Raydn’s scarf I see?" noted Sodis, over his big pile of breakfast, eating with his helmet still on.
Alyut smiled, "I believe the Gods have finally helped me find my way. I shall be forever in debt to them,"
"Oh my! Sounds like you had quite the night partying with Raydn to induce such change!" joked Sodis, unaware of the depth of his jest.
Alyut smiled warmly in response.
