It’s been 20 years since the premiere of Spike Lee’s She’s Gotta Have It, and the director is still writing problematic queer characters. Openly lesbian, Opal spends the majority of the film trying to recruit her very straight friend Nola (Tracy Camilla Johns) into the legion of lesbian-hood. Of course the only thing she succeeds in doing is fulfilling the predatory lesbian stereotype.
