august 27, 2015: film d'amore e d'anarchia, ovvero âstamattina alle 10 in via dei Fiori nella nota casa di tolleranzaâŠâ // love and anarchy | 1973 | dir. lina wertmĂŒller | italy | 120 min.Â
i saw this film for my friend willâs birthday at the new beverly on thursday - sorry for the late posting! qt was in attendance, and as itâs one of his favorite films it was interesting to see him watch it, because he laughed at really interesting places that the rest of the audience did not necessarily laugh at. i was really blown away by this film - by the cinematography, the story, the acting, the comedy, and the tragedy.
the story follows a hapless assassin who is stowed away at a whorehouse in rome so that he has access to kill mussolini. of course everything goes awry when he falls in love with one of the prostitutes. his deep, deer-in-the-headlights stares into the camera and at all of them is one of the most hilarious things Iâve seen. the dinner at the whorehouse is also one of the best, most well-written scenes iâve ever seen. you can really see qtâs inspiration for how he writes his women, especially in films like death proof - wertmĂŒller manages to portray some of the most real, well flushed out characters without ever providing depth to their actual character just through their auras and genuine portrayals and manner of speech. i was blown away, and i laughed so much. i really loved this film, and i need to see everything she has ever made. italian cinema!!!!!!
