Good morning 🙌. Found this little Common Green Hopper (Hortensia similis) perched on a long blade of grass 😀. Good morning 👋. Technically there is no need to travel to other lands to 'discover' life as it is all around us (Although that is my wish in life 🙌). Just sit down on a patch grass and use your eyes. Life will start 'popping' around you. I found this tiny grass #fly perched in a blade of grass. A tiny warrior sportting curious spikes on its back 😀. #Gimp was used to desaturate the background as means to highlight the subject 👍. So what do you think about this tiny one? Good morning 👋. So here is a lovely Milkweed Assassin Bug nymph (Zelus longipes) possing for my lens 😀. You can clearly see its "killing" proboscis bent backwards in 'rest' mode. These insects use this needle-like organ to stab and inject paralyzing toxins and digestive enzymes into their prey. Slurping the their prey's fluids comes next 😨. Not pretty but incredible I would say as they can tackle larger prey than themselves 😶. So what do you think about these flashy but deadly #insects ? Good morning 👋. A couple of days ago I found this male Small Minnow Mayfly (possible Callibaetis sp.😅). This boy was perched peacefully on a wall 😊. So you may wonder how I know this mayfly is a male..? Male mayflies have the very visible large red cylindrical eyes which face upward. Scientists speculate that these eyes are meant to help seek female mayflies flying overhead. This allows male mayflies to approach unsuspecting female mayflies and 'clamp' to them.
