Welcome to the Wolf 359 Reverse Big Bang!
What is a Reverse Big Bang?
In a classic Big Bang, authors write fics which artists sign up to make art for. A Reverse Big Bang is the other way around: artists make a piece of art first, and authors then write a fic for that art.
In this first round of the RBB, artists will have six weeks from the start of the challenge (see the timeline below) to create a piece of art. There will then be an anonymised claiming period for the artworks. Writers will then have six weeks to write a fic specific to the art.
Art for this challenge includes digital or traditional drawings, front-cover style pieces, and collages/moodboards.
There is a minimum word count for fics of 3,000 words.
To participate, you first must follow this tumblr so that you don't miss announcements. All posts will be tagged #w359rbb, and info posts from the mods (like this one) will also be tagged #rbbmod.
Next, complete the appropriate sign-up form for ARTISTS or WRITERS. If you want to enter more than once, please complete a form for *each* entry.
Sign-ups are open from now until the first check-in for artists, and until the end of claiming for writers. (Please note that the check-ins and deadlines remain the same, no matter when you sign up for the challenge.) Currently we’re just collecting contact info -- we’ll be asking for more details at Art Submission/Claims.
You must also make sure you respond to the check-ins! These are over a weekend period two weeks before either your art or fic is due. These are important because they let us know a) how everyone’s getting on, and b) whether we need to call for pinch hitters.
Please remember that although a Big Bang is not an exchange, it is collaborative — you will be expected to communicate regularly with your writer/artist (on whichever platform works best for the two of you). As an artist you are allowed to chose two hard Do Not Wants which your writer absolutely must avoid in their story. As a writer, there is an expectation that you will make a reasonable effort to write a story which your artist enjoys!
More detailed instructions will be given in a separate post nearer the time, but in short: you will be expected to post the art and story together in one entry on AO3 listing the artist and author as co-creators, and include it in the RBB AO3 collection. You are of course then welcome to make your own posts wherever you wish -- tumblr posts should be tagged with the #w359rbb and #wolf 359 tags to make them easy to find.
