And something that resonated so deeply within me in Shakespeare’s Code was in Season 1, where we see Ro’s curse take full effect and she transforms.

Edmund was there. He saw her in a state she herself despised. A state she’d been working so hard to get rid of. And he didn't run away.

He didn't flinch. He didn't cower. He didn't even show fear

He got closer and he caressed her face.

He didn't look at her the way the rest of the world did even at her most vulnerable. Where the world saw a witch and a monster, he saw a woman whose seemingly dark soul has endured more light than anyone can fathom.

Shit was so beautiful I actually shed a tear. If how Ro must've felt in the moment, immediately assuming Edmund would look at her with scorn or disdain wasn't a culmination of my romantic life as an awkward darkskin black girl, I don't know what is. That scene alone solidified my decision to make him my number one, and the gag is he still would have been regardless.
