RCBP 7 ~ Of Aulë and Mairon
Aulë and Mairon are walking together in the Timeless Halls. They always labor together, Matter and Mind, for though Mind is the elder he gladly serves the love he bears for Matter’s endless potential. Indeed it is by this perfect union that they house Eternity and contain All. Through Aulë’s implacable will and Mairon’s absolute wit, the Halls are infinite in scope and detail. They even allow distinction for the Many from the One, though Eru is wherever He pleases by His own will. Aulë and Mairon are distinct now. Mairon says, “Father is quiet this way.” “Aye,” says Aulë. “He has not spoken since singing the Ayanûz.” “Even though His will is known by every glance and the favor He shows.” “Aye. The One must be known by His Will that sings us.” “Strange then what Melkor says.” “What does the Body say?” “That Father will speak again and when He does it will be to command.” “... perhaps. Melkor knows Him best, save perhaps Manwë, and has the keenest eye, save perhaps you, Mairon.” “Why then will Father command, o my lord of What Is? If His children know Him, indeed as Melkor and I knew Him before the Ayanûz, why must He speak and change the flawless harmonies we sing now?” Aulë is thinking for some time. Mairon is noticing the time passing in these Timeless Halls. Aulë answers, “I do not know, and that is your answer, o Clever Thought. If Melkor is right and Father is to speak again, it is because we do not know Him, that even being of Him, He is still a stranger in His silence.” “That seems rather sad; don’t you think, Aulë?” “No. There is One and there is All. We are of the One but we are not the One and it is only factual that we cannot hold All the One within us. Be at peace, Mairon, and accept that there are mysteries within your Father even you do not ken.” Mairon says nothing, until he says, “I believe Melkor is right.” “Perhaps. Melkor knows Him best, save perhaps Manwë, and has the keenest eye, save perhaps you, Mairon.” Mairon smiles and leaves Aulë - without the Mind Matter turns to his simpler tasks for although Matter is lord he in fact needs Mind - and goes to Melkor.
