So I'm not going to mention much more about it in this post, but this year started out awfully for me. Those of you that were here with me from the start of 2014 might remember how depressed I was, and how hopeless I felt. But right now, I'm happier than I've been in a very long time. And I have so many people to thank. So first off, here's a follow forever for all the people that have made this year on tumblr really special and amazing for me. I love you all, even if you're not on this list and you follow me you make every day a joy.
super lovelies are bolded, ultra lovelies are bolded and italicized oooh

rcsolstice reblogged your post:Last year I got into a discussion with a pro-lifer...
How did the conversation lead to that? Do people usually have to remove magazines or plants from their bodies?
Well, certain infections from plants maybe? If this person counts fungi as plants (they probably do), yeah, sometimes fungi have to get removed from people. But magazines?
They were arguing about how a fetus is alive and human. I mean, they really chose some odd comparisons (a magazine? Really?) but they were doing their best to make a point.
Of course, their point was invalid. I've never met a pro-choicer who thought a fetus was inhuman or not alive. Saying that it's not alive or human flies directly in the face of science, and science is a pro-choicer's best friend.
My response was something along the lines of "I'm not arguing that a fetus isn't human or alive. If I did that, I'd be promoting false science, and that is something I avoid. I'm arguing that a nonsentient essentially parasite does not have priority over a sentient, autonomous individual."
Some people, man.
To everyone who responded to the last post, thank you for the advice, and the link was really helpful.
but its not valuing the fetus more than the woman, its valuing it as much as the woman- giving it a chance to live. you talk about bodily autonomy, but the taking of another life (even if you dont believe it is a "person" it is still a HUMAN fetus with a heart beat) completely contradicts that.
Yes it is. Giving a fetus rights over a person's body is not placing them at equal value.
I do talk about bodily autonomy a lot, and not giving a fetus rights over someone else's body doesn't contradict that statement. Fetuses aren't autonomous.
"The problem with this is that the [fetus] is already violating the pregnant person’s bodily rights and the pregnant person does have the right to remove the [fetus] if so desired.
It’s sort of like saying it’s wrong to take back what someone stole from you if you don’t have permission to take it back. Unless that person already had a right to that property or was given permission to take it, that property never belonged to them to begin with. The same thing applies to a fetus/embryo and a person’s womb." [x]
That anon doesn't really seem to understand what an atheist is. All you have to do is not believe, since when does not having a belief require 100% certainty?
I'm not sure. I AM sure, however, that they have no idea what they're talking about and are trying to argue semantics.
