no but seriously i have so many Thoughts about this man and his gargoyle wings. and i will say that since i finished The Blood of the King today, the next RCU entry on my list is this one after i saw you requested it.

i actually did write about this pre-RCU in a fic called Who We Are, but in that story i envisioned fWhip going through a much more full-body type transformation, which obviously didn’t happen. in the RCU, it’s only the wings that he receives (still the same way, after exploring/falling into a redstone crevice) but the terror and angst comes in when you consider that he has a very distrustful relationship with magic (based on a core RCU headcanon about the Grimlands where their culture is very pro-science and anti-magic). therefore, having something overtly magical attached to his own body where he can’t ignore it is a Problem. additionally he goes through this traumatic transformation alone (honestly he goes through a lot by himself in this continuity), and is worried about what his people will think, what his fellow rulers (especially Gem) will think, does this clash with his Grimlander identity, etc.

i’m super excited to work on this one and it will likely go up on AO3 within the next few days, so keep an eye out and send Saturn and me any more questions you think of (we love when the RCU/Roseblings gets attention lmao)

I saw the fic and I was super excited when it popped up in my notifs :D I love how you wrote it so much (the bit at the end between him and the members of his team was great and made me smile). Curious about what the thing that made him go down into the pit was and what happened to our beloved chaotic boy after he passed out again~ The writing of the RCU fics is always so good!

hello! i’m so glad you liked it!!! rest assured that this is not the last you’ve heard of the Thing from the pit. i won’t spoil too many future plans, but let’s just say it plays a bigger part than one might think. also delighted to hear you liked the research team—they’ll be popping in from time to time too, with lots more sarcasm and banter to break up the angst >:]
