Blue tits are definitely making use of the new nesting box--saw lots of activity today, as well as some materials trailing out of its little door =]

So much activity in the yard today! (Photos not mine.)
New visitors:
Eurasian jay (watched it find and eat a snail!)
Common blackbird (male)
European goldfinch
Nuthatch (such a pretty little thing!)
Repeat visitors:
common pheasant (male)
great spotted woodpecker
magpie
great tits
blue tits
long-tailed tits
Identifications confirmed:
western jackdaws (we hear them all the time but they’re difficult to catch clear sight of, finally found out what was responsible for those unique vocalizations!)
wood pigeons (absolute units)
Honorable mention:
eastern grey squirrel (absolute [and adorable] menace--finally caught it on the feeding pole!)
Also, there was blue tit activity in the new nesting box! Had seen some great tits popping in and out before but perhaps they decided not to stay. No one spotted using the old nesting box... the blue tits that had expressed interest before may have decided to leave because the squirrel likes to hang out on the roof. (Like I said... menace.)
A few mystery birds made appearances, will hopefully be able to get a better look at them in the coming days as spring does its thing. Saw a bird--not sure what--collecting wool stuck on the fence =]

Yesterday, Tom installed the bird feeder his parents got us for Christmas, and not even a day later, the birds are all up ons! Today we observed and identified these lovelies (photos are not mine):

I got maybe unreasonably excited by the arrival of the lone long-tailed tit that we saw, because it’s such a beautiful, delicate little puffball! LOOK AT IT! It really looks like that.
We watched them through the binoculars. The great tits have such beautiful patterns on their wings when they are folded on their backs. But also they were pissypants; they got all shouty when the blue tits were getting in on the eatin’s.
I can’t wait to see what else will visit us!
