If I was going to adapt Dracula I'd do a double bluff: keep in all the foreshadowing and sexism over Mina being too sensitive for the hunt and how glad everyone is that she's out of the way and will be safe
And then have Dracula go after Seward.
- Dude was in the same room as Lucy keeping watch and fell asleep next to her
- Dude lives right next door to where Dracula is hiding
- Dude is just proud and sceptical enough to hide the effects of losing blood and the bad dreams
- Dude has Renfield practically begging the Count to give him eternal life imagine how much more pissed he'd get if he found out Dracula had picked his captor instead
