Re-READ! City of Bones by Cassandra Clare
In one of my very few successful attempts at a re-read.. I present: City of Bones by Cassandra Clare. This is the first book in The Mortal Instruments series, the novel that launched a thousand ships, millions of careers, and a very successful franchise, The Shadowhunter Chronicles.
I remember my initial attempts to read through CoB, and boy, was it difficult. I had the same feelings the second time around, but once you get over the hard parts, by the last few pages, you’re probably enthralled and hooked by the characters that you’re hurriedly grabbing City of Ashes.
Some interesting observations:
Maryse Lightwood was a part of the first generation of Clave women who were trained as a matter of course- Jace said women have only been recently trained as Shadowhunters along men. I am confused because I don’t have the Infernal Devices with me, but Charlotte became Consul in the Victorian Era, was she not trained as a Shadowhunter?
The Falcon story never fails me to crack me up. To love is to destroy, my foot. Hahaha, never change, Jace. Also wow, I forgot how extra-snarky he was.
Magnus quoted Oscar Wilde. Was he perhaps influenced by a certain Matthew Fairchild?
Raphael’s entrance was so fabulous! We love you, Raphael.
I love how we have no clue as to Magnus and Alec being a thing.
Anyway, I really can’t believe that Valentine pretended to be Michael Wayland and that all those years he’s lived with the Lightwoods, he never saw a picture of Valentine (a famous Shadowhunter). This makes me somehow prefer the show’s version, no matter how much I detest the shape-shifter rune.
I may just grab City of Ashes for a re-read.
i just started re-reading THG and it is so amazing to re-read again. i haven't done it in a while. i'm thinking about making a huge post about it cause, wow, there are so many things i didn't notice the first or even second or third times! i love this series so much! each read is just so wonderful and amazing and ugh, SC is so talented! i hope she writes something new soon, cause her writing is just amazing!
RE-READ: Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare
I've got all my Infernal Devices books now! There they are, sitting pretty atop my dresser. Hee =P
So I decided to do a re-read! It may be a little too soon, but I don't care! I read the books via e-book and those tend to drift out of my brain as fast as they can. Also, I figured this would cure my CP2 hang-over. I love doing re-reads because while the initial read may be exhilarating as you're just dying to know what happens, when you re-read, the little details pop-out and the feels just follow.
Now on: Chapter 8, Camille. In which the gang meets up with Camille Belcourt. Also, they plan infamous De Quincey ambush.
So far: I've put up tags to the parts that pop out for me and most of them have been Jem-Tessa-Will moments.
I have to say, as Angel was the first book, it's main mission I guess was to introduce the characters and the adventures, set things up nicely. I only started becoming so invested with the characters come Prince. So this re-read has been eye-opening!
I just noticed the gestures that Will and Jem do when they're together (bawls). And the way Will would be caught looking at Tessa (cries). Also, how Tessa just warmed up to Jem instantly and how Jem cared for her (dead).
I think I'm setting this re-read up as a redeeming one for Will. Because all the drama lately has ruined him for me. (Yes I wasn't a big fan of him from the beginning, because I was fresh off TMI like a few hours after, when I started reading CA, and I just got a lot of Jace vibes off him, and I'm like "no, not another one").
I'm loving snarky lying cursed Will, he is just so funny.
Will: Most of the rest of the Enclave wouldn't be able to pass convincingly as a handsome young human subjugate--
Jem: Because the rest of us all are hideous, are we?
I SWEAR, THESE TWO! You're breaking my heart! How does Jem have an equally funny comeback to Will's comedic lines? Howww?!
More feels tomorrow :)
