I am super excited to join The Re-Read Challenge! I used to re-read my books ALL the time. Back in the dark ages before e-readers, goodreads, and amazon Prime, I was no less voracious a reader. I had a somewhat smaller but very well loved personal library. Combine blogging and receiving ARCs to review with instant access to literally millions of books, and re-reading has pretty much become a thing of the past. I do feel some pressure to always be reading something new for my blog and also just because there is so much out there I want to read, and new things show up in the mail or my inbox weekly. Not gonna lie, I'm easily distracted, especially by pretty covers. On more than one occasion I've thought about how much I miss re-reading books. Being on Tumblr and seeing quotes and fan art, etc. constantly reminds me of how awesome these stories and characters are, how much they have to offer, and how much I miss spending time in their worlds. It concerns me that I find it more difficult to re-read now, which is why I'm excited about this challenge. There are many books that are just phenomenal and really need to be re-read and savored.
I'm supposed to choose a specific number of books to re-read for the year, but I'm not sure about that. I'm going to say 12+. I think one a month is a good goal but if I end up being able to squeeze in a few more that'd be great.
I haven't decided on all of them yet, but some of the books I'd like to re-read are:
Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury (First read in 8th grade. I remember nothing but the basic plot.)
Happily Ever After by Susan May Warren (First read probably 7 years ago or so. One of the first books I read by my (now) favorite author.)
Gone with the Wind by Margaret Mitchell (First read in 7th grade. One of my all time favorites which I have actually re-read several times, but haven't made time for in the past few years.)
A Voice in the Wind by Francine Rivers (First read in 8th or 9th grade. Absolutely amazing story telling, another favorite author.)
Christy by Catherine Marshall (First read in elementary school. This was the first "big, thick adult" book I ever read. It took me forever to get through it but I was so proud of it.)
The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald (First read in 12th grade. I HATED this book in high school, and loved it when I re-read after high school.)
Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi (First read earlier this year. This book was like nothing I'd read before and I knew when I first read it that it really deserved a re-read.)
I can't wait to get started!! I'll keep you posted. :) If you'd like to join the challenge too sign up here!
